Biking in Beira Baixa, Portugal

Yesterday I took the mountain bike again. This time, I decided to explore a little bit and try to reach a small sanctuary not far away from the farm. The path was completely new, and I was not wearing a GPS; I only had my phone with me to check the path every once in a while, as I also did not have the cellphone mounting kit on this old bicycle. Unfortunately, I missed the sanctuary as I was following the main path, while I should have turned left at a certain point, but I was able to see it from a distance. In the end, I had to take the main road to come back, I will try to find a different way in the future to avoid riding next to the cars.

Here is a shot of the top of the hill, you can barely see the city of Castelo Branco far away.

And a short video of the ride while I was reaching the city. This is a secondary road and I did not cross with any vehicle at all during the first 1.5 hours of the trip.

In Portugal, it is forbiden to take mushrooms or any wild eatible plant from someone else property. Here you can also see how the oak treas have been harvested for cork wine tops and will be again in 5 years

Here's the map of the whole route.

In the afternoon, I decided to take the car and find out the fork I missed in the morning to make sure I get on the correct path next time I try this trip. I also decided to go further away and reach the old bridge of the Ponsul River, a tributary of the Tagus River, which crosses the entire Iberian Peninsula to end in the city of Lisbon.

This is the original old bridge which is not open to traffic anymore.

I love the nature in this region, specially the lonelyness you can experience while riding or visiting any place.
