First Aid Know- how And Experience Are Separate Things

Life is unpredictable, and lots of unexpected things can happen to anyone when they least expect it, so as with accidents or medical emergencies, no matter how safe we think we are, as well as the people around us. We can get hurt even out of the simplest things, and stuff that we deemed harmless can all of a sudden be life-threatening. And when such accidents happen, we cannot always wait for the patient to reach the hospital to receive appropriate treatment, as the condition of the patient can worsen with time. In such a case, knowledge of basic first aid treatment can be really helpful, and thankfully, I also have some training on it, though when it comes to the actual, I am not confident that I would be able to apply the correct first aid treatment before the patient gets sent to the hospital. ___

The way that I learned about first aid was through a seminar that my previous company required me to participate in because our company needed to have personnel with first aid knowledge to comply with the law. I find no reason to refuse because that will be a week without any desk work, and all my expenses will be covered. The seminar lasted a week, and upon completion, we got a certificate as well as a license to show people that we are allowed to provide first aid treatment, though that expires within a two-year period, so when I left my previous company, I was no longer able to renew it. Still, I was able to keep the training handbook with me and read it from time to time just in case I come across a situation where I need to provide first aid treatment.
Note:
In the Philippines, a person who provides incorrect first aid treatment without a first aid license and results in fatality, regardless of the intentions, may be held criminally liable.

If it's just to treat minor wounds or injuries, I think I can handle its first aid treatment just fine, and I have some experience in handling such incidents before. But when it comes to grave injuries, like an open fracture, gushing out with blood, I don't think that I can do it correctly, even when I have memorized all the knowledge in first aid without lots of training. Just think of it like this: There is a person who has all the knowledge about basketball but never played once in his life. Do you think being knowledgeable in basketball will make him move like an NBA player? Without training, no, and even with training, moving like an NBA player may still not be possible for him. But unlike basketball, giving first aid to a grave injury also takes a lot of pressure, because if you do the first aid incorrectly, that may make the patient's condition worse or may even be the reason why the patient passed away. To begin with, I'm not even used to seeing blood, like tons of blood gushing, so it is possible that when I see lots of blood for real, I might just vomit everything in my stomach and become another person to be taken to the hospital. Same thing with CPR, one wrong move and providing a first aid treatment can easily turn into me giving a death sentence. ___ ![IMG_20250827_202320.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/saydie/23wqeDQnmLsuca6paLDhC7dN4zXPD3DaeRbsmwVdyBVTDfXAWhfoXXN8D2BEaVwoFMzKB.jpg) While I think that it is important to have the know-how in first aid, to be really good at it means one has to have lots of training and live experience, but that also means that one has to go through situations where a person is hurt or in a critical condition. That is why I'd rather prefer that my first aid knowledge remains a knowledge, because that would mean that the people around me are safe. Thank you for reading my post, and see you in the next one!
