About Alice In Borderland

The Series of Alice in Borderland is one that I picked up at the time the first Squid Game season was a massive hype. I loved squid game and guess the YouTube / Google algorithm somehow managed to push me toward also checking out Alice In Borderland which at the core is very similar since it's about games where life or death is at stake. To my surprise, this series surpassed Squid Game for me at every level. The First season starts great, had a bit of a dip in the middle but was great again near the end. They followed this up with a 2nd season that was even better than the first and where the entire story was perfectly concluded with a satisfying ending. They still left room for a 3rd season which eventually came and was released a couple days ago. Basically, I have been recommending to watch Alice in Borderland to those who like Squid Game and know at least a couple who did this and also loved it! ---

Why Alice In Borderland is Better Than Squid Game!

I would argue that for both these shows, it's all about the games themselves with everything in between just as filler content to transition from one game to the other. In Squid Game, there is one major limiting factor in that all the games need to be somehow linked to 'childhood kids playground games'. This is not the case for Alice In Borderland which makes the games in this series just way more interesting overall. Especially in the 2nd Season I was watching them with a big smile on my face thinking this is sooo goood! I also like the story of Alice In Borderland more at least in the first 2 seasons as it makes you wonder what actually is going on with a good answer that makes sense in the end. So it turned out that there was a meteor strike which put the characters at the brink of life or death and the games took place in an imaginary world between life and death where they needed to fight to survive. In the end those who did woke up again in the real world and everything was explained. > ---

Alice In Borderland Season 3 (7.5/10)

So the big question for the 3rd season was how they were going to put the main characters back in the 'inbetween-world' so they once again had to take part in the games. The entire mystery factor of what exactly was going on and where they were also was gone so this season way more than the other was just about the actual games and everything inbetween was just mandatory filler content just to make up something of a story. It all was done in a way where I didn't really care about it, but at the same time it also didn't bother me that much. This certainly was a step down compared to the previous seasons though. The Season 3 Games !!

Here is a small summary along with some scores on each of the 9 games. Screenshots are taken from Brainpilot YouTube Video. - Game 1: Old Maid This one took place in the real world and was a simple card game played with 7 people where they needed to draw a card and the one at the end who was left holding the joker won. It was rather uninspired with limited strategy and part of the storyline of how thet would get back to the real games. (5/10)  - Game 2: Sacred Fortunes In this one, the players each had to draw a riddle/question that had a number as an answer and the difference between the guessed answer and the correct one would be the amount of flaming arrows that would be fired at them. It took place in a nice setting and was filmed beautifully also constantly escalating with the final question on the current population size which caused 100 Million arrows to be fired. The conclusion on how they got safe kind of passed by me so it was a fun game but nothing more 7/10  - Game 3: Zombie Hunt This one had everything why I love Alice In Borderland. An well thought out game concept with the players learning the rules, an interesting angle & strategy popping up, some plot twists during the game and at the end a smart satisfying conclusion. The only things I missed is the idea of why they could not just all become zombies so everyone survived but at the same time I assume I missed something in the rules that made this scenario not a winning one. This one really had it all and put a smile on my face while I was actively trying to strategize to win the game. It also introruced a new character who I liked. 9/10 !  - Game 4: Floating Lasers I don't really see this as one of the games as it was not fleshed out from start to finish. Instead they hop in during the game to show the other group and it's nothing more really than some visuals while the game itself looked kind of unrealistic. 4/10  - Game 5: Runaway Train This one was interesting from different angles while in essence a lot of it came down to luck. It could be strategized that the last train cabin would have poison and the 1st wouldn't but aside from this it mostly came down to luck with the odds insanely against them. The best thing about this game for me was the moment that the 2 main Characters Arisu and Usagi found eachother again which was filmed in a really satisfying way. A solid 8/10 for this one.  - Game 6: Tokyo Bingo Tower This was also a game where they dropped viewers in the middle of it. Visually it looked really nice but at the same time, the game itself didn't really do it for me. 6/10  - Game 7: Kick The Can This was a classic game where everyone going for themselves since not everyone could survive made for way more than the minimum deaths. The setup was quite interesting and it also was a game that was shown from start to finish. 7/10  - Game 8: Possible FuturesThis was another classic game with interesting rules, a smart setup, the posibility to strategise with individual incentives working agains things. The way it ended and was figured out also was pretty saitsfying. The entire gimmick of their futures playing on the wall was not really needed for me and at times stretched out a bit too long. 8/10  - Game 9: Pick A Card I barely would call this a game and it was somewhat of an end-season standoff. 4/10  ---

The Season 3 Characters!!

Actually my favorite Character of the first 2 Season, The guy with the white hair who was cold rational always coming up with the best solutions was not in this season. I still loved both Arisu and Usagi, and from the supporting cast, the anime looking girl with the blue hair was the best.  -|- Image|Image Conclusion: Season 3 more than the first 2 season is all just about the games with some of them again having excellent setups and conclusions. The entire story itself was kind of filler content but it also never was annoying. I enjoyed this season for sure and the 6 episodes are really easy to binge watch. If I would rank all 3 seasons this would end last just below season 1 and quite a bit away from season 2 which was my favorite.
