It has been a while since I have compared my Splinterlands and Hive earnings and I decided to revisit this subject to see how things changed over time.
My Hive Earnings
My Hive earnings are very easy to calculate. As you can see from the image above I have three sources of Hive Rewards: Author Rewards, Curation Rewards and Witness Rewards.
One thing that is not included in the rewards above is the three percent interest rate for Hive Power which add around 525 Hive annually or divided by 12 months would add around 44 Hive or $9.18 monthly:
At the current price of 21 cents per Hive token my Hive rewards for the last thirty days in USD are:
Author Rewards: $202.35 Witness Rewards: $43.97 Curation Rewards: $25.93 Interest Rate for Hive Power: $9.18
Total: $281.43
Obviously Curation Rewards are heavily dependent on how much Hive you have staked, the value of my stake right now is: $ 3,644.40
If we divide $25.93 by total value of the Hive that is staked $ 3,644.40 we get: 7.12% curation APR. That is different than what Hive Stats is showing:
And that is probably because my Hive Power is growing and I am calculating the above rate of return based on the bigger amount that was there thirty days ago...
Splinterlands Earnings
For my Splinterlands earnings I will use the recent season earnings where I played in the modern league and reached Champion Three, but mostly played in Diamond One.
Also, as you can see my biggest source of SPS earnings was actually my SPS validator node that brought me 5404 SPS in a single season. To compare this to thirty days of Hive earnings we need to double SPS earnings as Splinterlands season is approximately two weeks.
If we double Validator node earnings it would bring us to 5404 x 2 = 10,808 SPS. At current price of $0.0087 that is around $94.03
If we total up all of my SPS earnings per month we will get 11,049.565 SPS per season or 22,099.13 SPS per month and at the current SPS price of $0.0087 that is around $192.26 per month.
That is not bad, but less than $281.43 that I am earning on Hive.
Another thing to consider is that I mostly play in Wild league where SPS earnings are lower and you have to pay a Wild Pass fee of 2000 DEC.
Playing in Wild league earns me more glint tokens and those are important to max out the reward cards, which are not maxed out yet. The new rewards cards are coming and I would like to max out my legendary reward cards before the change over.
It could be good to save up some glint though as it is rumored that new reward cards will not be soulbound.
Conclusion
Obviously Splinterlands is a game and is a fun activity and writing on Hive is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think that Splinterlands players should not overlook the opportunity of being active on Hive blockchain and long term having exposure to both Hive and Splinterlands provides diversification and as you accumulate Hive you help Splinterlands community to have a bigger voice on Hive.
The importance of that bigger influence was quite clear when Splinterlands asked HIVE DHF for funding and we had trouble securing it.
