In less than ten days the graphical interface to transfer SPS from Base blockchain should be available in the game. You don't have to wait for that to happen to buy SPS tokes using Coinbase. You can do that today via Coinbase Wallet!
The guide below will serve as a step by step of how to buy SPS in the most cost effective way in United States.
Get Funds Into Coinbase
I am assuming if you are reading this then you already have a Coinbase account. If you don't have one you can use this link to sign up
On the Coinbase homepage you will see the following section on the right:
Click "Deposit cash" and the following screen will appear:
Make sure that you enter at least $10 as that is the minimum deposit into Coinbase from the bank. Click "Preview" button, then you will see a confirmation screen:
For convenience I would suggest toggling on the "Convert to USDC" option as that would save you a conversion to USDC step. Then click "Deposit now" button, your funds will be instantly available for trading on Coinbase and there is no fee to deposit from your bank account into Coinbase.
If you didn't check the Convert to USDC you can buy USDC the following way:
Enter the amount of USDC you would like to buy and click Review order button:
You will receive the exact amount of USDC as you have entered and there is no fee for doing this:
It might take up to fifteen minutes to fill your order for USDC. Once your USDC is converted you will see something like this:
I had a few cents laying around in USDC so my total is now $2.71. If you are on the Coinbase website in a browser and not using the Advanced Mode, then you can enter SPS in the Search Box and you will see the following screen:
Coinbase Wallet
As you can see there is a message that SPS is tradable on Coinbase Wallet. Click on the blue "Get Coinbase Wallet" button. It will take you to the wallet.coinbase.com site where you might have to connect your existing Coinbase wallet or use a Base app to connect your wallet like I did or perhaps get a new Coinbase wallet. Once you wallet is connected you should see something like this:
I should note that you can also use Base app on your phone for this and it would also work.
Transfer Funds from Coinbase into Coinbase Wallet on Base Chain
Next step you need to transfer your USDC funds from Coinbase into Base chain. To do that on the Coinbase Home screen click on "Send crypto" on the right and the following screen will come up:
On this screen you need to enter your Base chain address from your Coinbase Wallet
Then select USDC as an asset:
Then select Base chain as the network:
On the next screen you enter the amount you want to transfer to your Base wallet, in my case I will just click "Max" button:
Then you will see confirmation screen where you check your wallet address and Network and Amount you are sending and as you can see there is no network fee and click "Send now" button:
You will see the following screen telling you that you have sent USDC to your Base Wallet. So far there are no fees in this process:
You will now see that in my Base wallet the amount of available USDC is now $7.71 which is the $5 I had there initially plus $2.71 that I just sent.
Buying SPS Tokens on Base Chain
To buy SPS tokens on Base chain you need to click on the "Swap" option on the left:
Enter the amount of USDC you would like to spend on SPS then click on the "To asset"
IMPORTANT Make sure you enter a correct address for SPS token in this box: 0x578661E9A09Eee6b2cd97D4Ded1CCBaE7B8516B9
There are many tokens that sound like SPS, but only this address gets you the correct SPS. It may change in the future but for now SPS is really new on Base chain.
At this time you will get the following warning:
Click continue and it will bring you to the following screen:
Click "Find best price." If you don't have any ETH in your Base wallet, you will get the following message:
Coinbase recommends at least $0.001 in ETH on Base blockchain to complete a transaction. I will transfer $1 worth of ETH to the Base blockchain using Base Wallet app. You do it exactly the same as I did with transferring USDC from Coinbase to Base wallet.
The transfer is basically instantaneous and free:
Once you click Find the best price button you will be presented with the following screen:
And this is where the fees come up. As you can see Coinbase is charging a swap fee of $0.08 cents or 10.0705 SPS on this amount:
You click Swap button and after a little while SPS is in your Base wallet!
As you can see I still have exactly the same amount of ETH as before I swapped USDC to SPS tokens. If we look a the cost per SPS token you see that I paid $7.711 for 997.975 SPS tokens or $0.00773 per SPS token
Next you can hold these tokens on Base chain or use the bridge Splinterlands setup to bring these SPS tokens into the game and then you can transfer the tokens to Hive and swap for Hive tokens or you can burn SPS for DEC then transfer DEC into the Hive engine and swap for what you want. The second option burns SPS tokens in the process reducing the total SPS supply...
