Introduction
When it comes to playing in Modern league everyone know that it is expensive and the most expensive card and also the most needed are Archons formally known as summoners. You can't play the modern cards you have unless you have archons for the splinter or the ruleset.
Cost of Modern Summoners
If you look at the current summoner lineup you will notice that at the max level Reklah is one of the cheapest summoners:
Reklah is the third cheapest summoner and is only seventeen cents more expensive than Nomos and is around four dollars more than the cheapest summoner Underboss Fabiano.
If we decide to play at the Modern Gold league level the prices are even more affordable with Reklah being the second most affordable archon and priced at a super affordable $21.49!
As you can see the market is very thin with only one or two archons available on the market for gold level archons.
Reklah is More Useful Than Most Realize
Sure there are better summoners in the modern league, but even the three mana archons are more expensive at level six than Reklah at level six. And Reklah is a rare archon while those three mana archons are common rarity meaning that they need to be at least level eight before you can play them at the Gold league level. And they don't have any abilities, though it could be argued that their main ability is the ability to summon cards from two splinters if both splinters are available in the ruleset. The other advantage of the three mana archons is that they can be played in the small mana ruleset and these five mana rare summoners are not available in that ruleset.
Still at twenty one dollars for a gold tier archon Reklah brings a very useful Deflect ability. This ability is given to two units on the friendly team and protects them from Corrosive Ward, Magic Reflect, Thorns, Return Fire and Blast Splash damage. That is a lot of rulesets as well as cards that this ability could be very useful against! Think about that Brave Tofu archon spam that we see all the time or the rulesets where you have thorns damage!
The Battle
Link to a Modern League battle where I used Reklah Archon Let us take a look at the Modern League battle where I have used Reklah to win it. This was a fairly small mana battle with only sixteen mana available to build your team. Five mana was used up by the Reklah archon and that left me eleven mana available to build the rest of my team.
Considering such a low mana limit I have decided to go with Halfling Refugee as my main tank. This epic rarity reward card has self heal, four melee damage and eight health points at level five for only one mana. Next I placed Dark Arborist in case they play a magic damage monster then I would be able to use a reflect ability that comes with Dark Arborist. This rare rarity reward card comes with two magic damage as well as seven health for only four mana which is pretty good.
Next I played another one mana reward card that comes with melee damage. Here you can see that two of my monsters have melee damage and the ruleset excludes ranged attacking monsters and has thorns and that is where Rekhlah really shines so it protects both of my melee damage dealers from receiving thorns damage!
And finally in the very back I have played another card that I feel is underrated: Arachne Weaver. This is another epic rarity rebellion reward card. For only five mana at level five this card comes with seven health points, two magic damage and two very useful abilities:
Corrupted Healing Each round, restore 70% of max health (rounded down) to other allied units. Each time a unit is healed, its max health is reduced by 1. This sounds like a negative ability, but in reality it works really good as a beneficial ability!
Scavenger +1 health and max health each time any unit is defeated. Since we are not likely to have sneak monsters due to the thorns ruleset hiding out in the back this ability should add some pretty good health to our Arachne Weaver.
Here we see that our opponent is using a maxed out level eight rare summoner as well as a maxed out Mystic Mudbinder. This card is their tank and main damage dealer as the other two monsters in their lineup do not amount to much in terms of damage dealing.
In the first round their team made quick work of my tank and our thorns took out their last melee monster and reflect managed to take away holly protection shield from their secondary magic damage dealer.
Let's see how round two plays out...
Thanks to the Arachne Weaver healing our front monster it has held up pretty good so far and their hippo is almost defeated, though it does self heal...
The self heal didn't help hippo to stay alive against the onslaught of our damage dealers and in round three we scored a winning shot!
This got us a nice win in the Modern league:
