Beer Tasting Aldersbacher Urhell and Laško Zlatorog Temno

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

Summer is slowly coming to an end here; it is humid and rainy everywhere, although it is still warm. Summer may extend into September, but there are no signs of that yet. Despite the light rain, I spent quite a bit of time in the field and picked green beans for the fifth time this year, the plant that yields the highest harvest in our field. This time I chose five kilograms. Then I had to clean everything and vacuum pack it in bags. That took me quite some time, so I'm running late for #beersaturday at 426. And what did you do today?

Two beers have been chilling in my fridge all day: one Slovenian and one German. I will gladly empty them and share the experience with you.

🍻 😎 🍻

Aldersbacher Urhell

Brewed by Brauerei Aldersbach, Aldersbach, Bayern, Germany. Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.1% ABV, IBU 18. Helles lager.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Brightly filtered, sunny yellow full-bodied beer, fine-pored foam, mildly hopped with Hallertau Tradition and Hallertau Perle.

The beer is golden in color, clear, with average foam that slowly disappears. It does not have any particular aroma. It goes down smoothly, and I first taste the mild sweetness of malt, followed shortly by a gentle bitterness, with citrus notes in the background. The aftertaste slowly disappears.

Excellent beer! I was amazed; I didn't expect this, considering it's a brand I'm not familiar with, one of many German breweries I've heard of for the first time. However, it's a very refined and elegant beer. Everything is just as it should be. One of the best lagers this year. It's a shame that I only have one, and I'm unsure if I'll ever be able to get another one; unfortunately, I've forgotten where I got it.

🍻 😎 🍻

As I mentioned, I was picking green beans today. I brought a small ladder to the field because I was picking at the top, the ones I couldn't reach before.

Cleaning, washing, drying, and vacuum packing into half-kilogram bags (10 bags) took a considerable amount of time.

🍻 😎 🍻

Let's move on because it's already late!

Laško Zlatorog Temno (Dark)

Brewed by Pivovarna Laško, Laško, Slovenia. Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.9% ABV, IBU N/A. Dark lager.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Laško Zlatorog dark offers a characteristic aroma from the original 1941 recipe. Lighter in alcohol content and richer with a shade of caramel malt this beer remains within the boundaries of well known drinking routine. Unique taste and top quality mix great with lighter Zlatorog beer. Discover the dark side of the legendary Slovenian beer.

The beer is dark brown, almost black in color, with average foam that quickly disappears. It smells of caramel. It goes down smoothly, and I can taste the bitterness of roasted malt, which dominates, followed by a slight sweetness, bitter chocolate, and perhaps a hint of caramel, but very much in the background. The bitterness of the roasting lingers in the aftertaste for some time.

The beer is drinkable, sure, but it's not really my thing. At first, the roasted malt is too strong, overshadowing all the other flavors. It's not balanced enough. It's an average dark beer, but I wouldn't go for another one. I could try mixing it with a light beer; my friend says it works great. Since the beer is available in all local stores, I'll give this mixture a try.

And what am I listening to when writing this and tasting beer? Something from Friday's New Tunes selection. Yeah, Man On A Mission :)
