Process/Proceso

We started with the sketch, I already had a very clear idea of what I wanted to capture in my work, as I told you in the intro I did the sketch and took a few days off. I did this sketch in 2 stages, the first one making the basic shape and the second one detailing better and correcting certain things, I also added an idea of how the forest would be.

Iniciamos con el boceto, ya tenia la idea muy clara de lo que quería plasmar en mi obra, como les conté en la intro hice el boceto y me tome unos días de vacaciones. este boceto lo hice en 2 etapas, el primero haciendo la forma básica y el segundo detallando mejor y corrigiendo ciertas cosas, también agregué una idea de como sería el bosque

After returning from the beach, and with new ideas to add, I started the next phase, which would be to make the lineart on a new layer in black color and a brush with a hardness of 60%.

Al regresar de la playa, y con nuevas ideas para agregar empecé la siguiente fase está sería hacer el lineart sobre una nueva capa en color negro y un pincel con dureza al 60%.

We apply the base color, starting with the body, this is where the first important problem arises, the body has at least 3 different color tones, the human part and the horse part. I could do a single color base color and then add the details. Another option was to apply everything in the same base layer, although this would give me some problems when putting shadows, this time I wanted to experiment and add everything in the same layer and solve the problems as they arise.

Aplicamos el color base, empezando por el cuerpo, aquí es donde se me plantea el primer problema importante, el cuerpo tiene al menos 3 tonos de color diferentes, la parte humana y la parte de caballo. Podía hacer un color base de un solo color y luego agregar los detalles. Otra opción era aplicar todo en la misma capa base, aunque esto me daría ciertos problemas al momento de poner sombras, esta vez quise experimentar y agregar todo en la misma capa e ir resolviendo los problemas a medida que surjan.

Without further complications we added the base color of the other parts of the body, for this illustration it was not necessary to use the texture effect, besides a small leaf the character has no clothes at all.

Sin más complicaciones agregamos el color base de las otras partes del cuerpo, para esta ilustración no hizo falta usar el efecto de textura, además de una pequeña hoja el personaje no tiene nada de ropa.

Moment of lights and shadows, I had to achieve a balance, as the horse part is strong... but I didn't want it to look too aggressive or muscular. For the lights I used two tones, the first one a little yellow and then a lighter tone, reaching almost to total white. In some parts of the human body I used warm tones, I'm not sure if her skin is human-like or more animal-like, so I didn't want to use too much blush.

Momento de las luces y sombras, debía conseguir un equilibrio, pues la parte de caballo es fuerte... pero no quería que se viera muy agresiva o musculosa. Para las luces use dos tonos, el primero un tanto amarillo y luego un tono más claro, llegando casi al blanco total. En algunas partes del cuerpo humano usé tonos cálidos, no estoy seguro si su piel es parecida a la humana o más parecida al de un animal por lo que no quise usar mucho rubor.

This detail is not visible to the naked eye, but the hair has a slight blue tone at the ends, I think it looks very nice to have hair that is not a single color.

Este detalle no se aprecia a simple vista, pero el cabello tiene un ligero tono azul en las puntas, creo que se ve muy bonito al tener un cabello que no sea de un solo color.

Every little detail has its shade of shadow and light, and each one must have logic, that is, we must always take into account where the light source comes from. I think that's why it takes me some time to finish it. Even so I think it's worth it.

Cada pequeño detalle tiene su tono de sombra y luz, y cada uno debe tener lógica, es decir siempre debemos tener en cuenta de donde viene la fuente de luz. Creo que por eso me lleva algo de tiempo terminarlo. Aun asi creo que vale la pena.

The background has several layers, from the farthest to the closest and most detailed. As you could notice, the tones vary from yellow to shades close to green. Also being in separate layers I can change or add colors to my liking.

El fondo cuenta con varias capas, desde la más lejana hasta las mas cercanas y detalladas. Como pudieron notar, los tonos varían del amarillo a tonos cercanos al verde. De igual forma al estar en capas separadas puedo cambiar o agregar colores a mi gusto.

In closer layers we draw trees, these being closer should have details, I could have left them without details... but I really liked the character so much that I wanted to do everything right down to the smallest detail.

En capas mas cercanas dibujamos árboles, estos al estar mas cerca deben tener detalles, bien pude dejarlos sin detalles... pero realmente me gusto tanto el personaje que quise hacer todo bien hasta el más mínimo detalle.

Well let me explain this, the middle layers are divided into 3 each one closer to the character. as you can notice this makes it easier to add depth to the character.

Bien dejen que les explique esto, las capas del medio se dividen en 3 cada una mas cerca del personaje. Como pueden notar esto facilita el agregar profundidad al paisaje.

With different layers and different shades of green, we created the closest layers, this was somewhat tedious, as I had to draw the grass one by one.

Con diferentes capas y diferentes tonos de verde, creamos las capas más cercanas, esto fue algo tedioso, pues tenía que dibujar el pasto uno por uno.

This little magic butterfly has a lot of meaning, on the mountain where I based this background, you often see beautiful big blue butterflies. Another reason is that I wanted to represent the magic of the character and the forest as a small and delicate butterfly.

Esta pequeña mariposa mágica tiene mucho significado, en la montaña en la cual me base para hacer este fondo, con frecuencia se ven mariposas grandes de color azul muy hermosas. Otro de los motivos es que quise representar la magia del personaje y del bosque como una pequeña y delicada mariposa.

Finally, we add lights on the grass, this is where you can see the importance of having different layers for the background, using the layer lock option I can change the color of certain areas of the grass without changing its shape.

Finalmente, agregamos luces en el pasto, es aqui donde se ve la importancia de tener capas diferentes para el fondo, usando la opción de bloqueo de capa puedo cambiar de color ciertas zonas del pasto sin cambiar su forma.

Well friends we reached the end, I hope you liked it as much as I did. I really think this is now one of my favorite illustrations hehe. So much that it gave me a good idea for a future project. See you cowboys!
