Olive harvest soon

The olive harvest in my area is about to begin because the olives are already quite full of oil, and some friends who harvested a few days ago due to other commitments say that they’re already getting 11–14 liters of oil per 100 kilograms, which is pretty good. So we’ll be going to pick ours next week too.

From the photos I took, you can see how big the olives are, and luckily they’re not badly damaged by pests, which is great. But it’s not so good that a lot of them are falling off the trees on their own. That happens when there’s a severe drought, and this summer was indeed very dry.

Now we’re just praying that strong winds don’t start blowing before next week, because if they do, many more olives will fall off, and those that fall on the ground aren’t good for pressing into oil.

I can’t wait for this year’s delicious olive oil — I love eating it with fish, with polenta, with bread and garlic, really with anything…
