Adelaide Hive Meeting May 2025

It’s 10pm on Thursday 29th of May as I start to write this (and Saturday 7th of June 2025 as I finish it), and I am on the Gawler Central train as I type this via the Ecency app on my phone.

The train has just stopped at the Kilburn station temporarily, before moving on, but that’s not my destination.

I’m heading home after another great Adelaide Hive Meeting!

I don’t know the last time I was at one of these meetings, but I know it’s been at least 7 months. My concept of time has been screwy somewhat of late.

I’d been in the city since 12:46pm because I had a shift at the Festival Centre. It was an easy job of transporting boxes on a few trolleys up one floor, via an elevator, from the basement to the storage room.

Then later counting the stock of T-shirts on the second floor. There was one short!

Later, I said to the manager that she could ask for me by name with the labour-hire company. She said that she already does, and that made me feel really good.

Anyway my shift ended at 4pm

I arrived at the Duke Of Brunswick Hotel around 5:30pm and ordered a drink of Coke No Sugar from the bar while I waited for @mattclarke to arrive.

The Duke Of Brunswick Hotel

Our meetings are now at The Duke Of Brunswick Hotel and are held on the last Thursday of every month at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to join us and talk about all things Hive.

Fair warning though, there is a lot of focus on Splinterlands though! I don’t mind it though. My main focus is meeting like-minded people and possibly gaining a few finance tips. I have dabbled with trading but only on Hive-Engine, and I mostly focus on SWAP.btc and a few token miners.

Why not try and set up a Hive meeting in your own location?

@mattclarke turned up before 6pm and we shook hands. I asked him if he’d oblige me a selfie for this post and he agreed. Before long @ctrpch turned up and we ordered meals and caught up.

I’d ordered the pub’s Chicken Schnitzel with chips and salad. Its was quite nice, and not something I can afford all that often unfortunately. I am still in a position where I need to be frugal.

Cutlery holder made of LEGO

I’d taken the above photo of the cutlery holder, made out of LEGO, because I liked the novelty of it before @mattclarke had arrived.

Later it became useful tool to teach some of the fundamental aspects of the Hive blockchain itself, namely the green base piece is the Hive blockchain and the LEGO blocks are the front end dApps, games, video platforms, etc. built on top of it.

At 6:30pm, @guyman and @killerdragon24 both turned up and they brought out their laptops and started playing Splinterlands and the conversation pretty much was about Splinterlands, Ecency, trading crypto, etc.

At some point I mentioned having a Doctor Blight mini-figurine. There was a plan to make a lot of Splinterlands merch at one point.

It was great to meet these two later arrivals as it’s always good when there are numbers to these gatherings. At around 8:30pm it was time to consider heading home. Isn’t it funny how much you can cram into a few hours?

I think when friends get together in person it creates a very different atmosphere, and I hope there is a Hive gathering / meetup in your local area where you can discuss all things Hive and even trade goods and services.

If you’re planning on coming to Adelaide towards the end of any month, why not come along to this very casual Hive meeting to put a face to the username(s)?

Please ask @mattclarke whether the meetings are happening on any given month before you come to avoid disappoint if there are changes or postponements.

That’s all from me today. Thank you for reading.
