The Kindness Offensive.

Right now, it’s 11:20am on 4th of August 2025 and I am sitting at table 9 of my favourite Vietnamese restaurant, the Pho Linh.
I’ve just ordered a chicken bao and a combination banh mi.
Chicken Bao
Combination Banh Mi
It’s been a while since I have had a chance to eat here. Eating at restaurants these days isn’t cheap, but I also feel the need to let my presence be seen and felt in my favourite social groups and locations.
Yesterday my main bank account read AU$6.00, I ate at a soup kitchen and I’d missed a rent payment over the weekend.
However, I wasn’t worried because I knew that today there would be a large payment coming in.
I will pay my rent and renew my medication scripts after I finish eating here.
Kindness from others
I am grateful for the Hive community’s kindness in upvoting my last two blog posts to a financial level that combined could more than cover the above meals.
I am also grateful for the moral support in the comments, and the creation of various platforms on the Hive blockchain that allow me to interact with people all over the world.
I am grateful for the stray bits of advice kindly given by people who have had similar experiences to what I have been going through seemingly for the last 6 months, or have achieved what I want to achieve. This includes Hive meetups in real life.
There was one last Thursday and it was good to catch up with the regulars and a new face.
I am grateful for the kindness of the volunteers at various soup kitchens and charities I have had to rely on in the last few months. Some of that food can be frozen and last a long, long time.
I am grateful for the kindness of the pharmaceutical benefits scheme reducing the cost of my medications to AU$38.50 a month instead of AU$110!. That’s a huge relief!
I’m grateful that my friend Caden, the guy that I teach conversational English to every Sunday bought me a ticket to the new Fantastic Four movie a few weeks ago.
I had to avoid reviews and spoilers for nearly a week before then, which is quite the challenge.
Also a big thank you to @bobaphet for the link to Cambly, a conversational English teaching platform I am considering joining.
Kindness to myself
This can be as simple as eating healthier, and lifting small weights every day. Steamed broccoli does wonders for the blood sugar levels and strength training will come in handy when I go to work at the Royal Adelaide Show this year.
I need to remember to do squats in order to prevent pulling thigh and calf muscles before then.
I’m grateful for the various companies that do employ me sporadically. It just needs to be for longer hours and more frequent days.
Long ago, I had set things up so that I was paying myself AU$50 every two weeks into a separate account. For the last few months I have had to transfer that money back to pay bills. Today I am making sure that I won’t be doing that again, or at least holding out a lot longer.
Kindness to others
There’s a lot of unchecked hatred online these days, to the point where the phrase “Kindness is their kryptonite” was invented. How could kindness become offensive?!
It’s in relation to the new Superman movie which I liked. It’s not the perfect movie, but it really doesn’t deserve the backlash it’s getting. In fact it’s already made more money than Man Of Steel did when compared at their 20 day mark (not over all just yet).
It’s also why I incorporated the new logo into the my image at the top. The symbol represents kindness and hope.
In light of the unfortunate way the world seems to be heading, kindness and hope are increasingly becoming scarce commodities (Invest now!).
As a response to this, I am going on a kindness offensive and I invite you to do the same.
Thank you for reading, upvoting, commenting and even reblogging.
Until next time…
Shaidon
