Lately, I've been trying to watch movies that I missed when they were in theaters and never got around to watching. I'm also watching movies that I watched as a boy. I remember watching them, but I don't remember what the story was about, so I need to go back and re-watch these movies. For example, I loved watching James Bond movies when I was young, but I don't remember the plots anymore, so it makes sense to go back and watch all the James Bond movies.

And so, with that in mind, I recently watched... Starship Troopers. I think it's Starship Troopers. And I also watched Waterworld with Kevin Costner. So, the thing with Starship Troopers, I think, is that I never watched it because it wasn't something that my wife was interested in. And back in the time when it came out, I think we were still doing VHS or DVD movies. It wasn't like today where you could just go online and watch whatever you want. And so, when streaming came out, I just never got around to looking it up. And then, not too long ago, I tried looking up Starship Troopers, and it was not available. You had to rent it. I looked it up again recently and saw that it was available, so I watched it. And it was a good movie. It was fast-paced, campy, and an entertaining story. It probably isn't what I would call a drama masterpiece, but it was a good, entertaining time that I spent watching it.
Waterworld is another movie that came out in the theaters, and I never went to watch it. And then there was a lot of press about how bad the movie was, and I thought, well, I'll save my money and watch something else. And I've tried to look for it on and off over the years, and finally I had some time to myself at home. And I decided, you know what, today's the day. I'm going to go watch Waterworld. And that movie also was entertaining. It was a decent story. A lot of practical effects. I wasn't expecting that the Kevin Costner character, the Mariner, was going to be a mutant. He had webbed feet and gills. That was a bit of a stretch for me, but, you know, it's a story. What can you say about that?
But again, I think the critics maybe weren't enthusiastic about the movie, but it wasn't a bad movie. It was entertaining. It was good. Like a lot of movies, there's a MacGuffin, which in this case is not a thing, but it's basically they were looking for dry land. It's out there somewhere. I find it hard to believe that a guy who lived all his life on water would not have stumbled upon dry land somehow. And that it took a tattooed map on the back of a little girl to find it. That's just a bit incredulous. But other than that, it was entertaining. I wasn't expecting to watch Dennis Hopper as the main villain. He did a decent job, I suppose. But I think probably, again, the ratings for it weren't fair to the movie. I think it was better than what they let on.
Currently, I've been watching stuff on Netflix that is about to be removed from availability, I suppose. I don't know what you would call it. I've added a bunch of movies to my playlist so that when I have free time, I can sit down and watch a movie. And actually, that reminds me, I need to write this down. I need to add the James Bond movies so that I can watch those. And I do want to watch Smokey and the Bandit and I think I might also re-watch The Cannonball Run. I think I remember other movies like Any Which Way But Loose. I should probably watch a lot of the westerns actually, now that I'm thinking about it. I should watch a lot of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. I don't know, I think there's a lot of old cinema that is awaiting for me to rediscover or to discover since I've never actually watched a lot of these movies and since they're not new movies I think they ought to be available somewhere, maybe even on YouTube.
So I'm curious if there are movies that you've always wanted to watch, have you found a place to watch them, what stops you from watching them? That's all for now, please let me know what you thought of the movies that I listed above that I've watched or maybe put some suggestions for movies that I should watch.
