THE VALUE OF SMALL REMINDERS

I woke up one Monday morning feeling lazy and grumpy. Mondays always seems like a drag and this one in particular felt daunting. I spent the entire Sunday talking with friends instead of working on my project, and now I was paying the price.

I rushed to get ready for school, reaching school that was when I realized I had forgotten my ID card on the kitchen counter back home. My mom left for work as well but she called me just as I was trying to settle down. "Sharon did you forgot your Id again?" She asked, Her voice was filled with so much concern. I immediately rolled my eyes, filled with annoyance. "Mom why are you calling me about this? You could have reminded me when I was home."

My mom's voice remained calm. "Just be careful dear and don't forget to eat your lunch."

I then sigh and hung up, I was actually feeling a bit guilty but also frustrated. Why did she have to call me about this?

But then, something I never expected happened. A course mate sitting next to me who overheard my conversation with mom, turned to me with a serious face. "Sharon I'm sorry I couldn't help but listen. I also forgot my ID and I did not even have time for breakfast. But no one cared to remind me about all this." Her eyes were filled up with tears. "I lost my mom last year. I can only wish I have someone who would remind me about these little things.

Her words struck an oriamo chord deep withing me. I felt a deep sense of regret for responding to my mom the way it did. Her words made me realized how luckily I was to have a mother who cares so much about the smallest things, who remind me about my ID card and lunch, who also check on me every morning.

I couldn't shake off the feelings of gratitude and appreciation for my mom that very day. That evening I called her and did apologize for my behavior. "Mom, I'm sorry for responding that was at you earlier and also for hanging up on you. I just realized how lucking I'm to have you as a mother."

Mom's was calm and understanding. "Sharon, I just want what's best for you. I'm just so happy to remind you about all this things no matter how small they are.

I got to learn the value of love and appreciation and to cherish every little things or small reminders that always go unnoticed everyday moment. Mom calls and messages may feel annoying at times but they are reminders that she care and will always look out for me.
