Hello, my dear @motherhood community! How was your weekend? I hope you had great moments with your loved ones.
My son woke up fussy on Sunday morning. He cried even more when I didn’t allow him to watch on his cellphone first in the morning. So to calm the storm, mommy knew exactly what to do. I brought him under the guava tree in the backyard and picked some ripe fruit.
He likes fruits from our backyard, so after he held the fruit crate with guavas in it, he suddenly changed his mood to sunny. The tantrums are gone like nothing happened. Every bite mirrors innocent joy, only naïve beings know.
But of course, his heart wasn’t full if he wouldn’t share his happiness with his wawa (grandma). My son is really close to his grandma, and he actually prefers to sleep beside her rather than beside me. I think because I am working at night, so he gets used to sleeping on his wawa’s arms. Somehow, I am happy that besides me, his wawa takes a special place in his heart, too.
In the afternoon, we went to church together — this has been our regular Sunday routine. I want my son to grow up God-fearing and loving. At his age, he already knows that when it's Sunday, we have to be at church. There was even a time when he cried all week because we weren’t able to go.
He does tend to be a bit restless at church, often walking around and fiddling with the musical instruments. But our fellow churchgoers understand that it’s all part of his development. Whenever I correct him, I explain what he did wrong. I'm happy that he knows how to say sorry when he's scolded — he hugs me, a sign of his willingness to listen and submit to me. After the church service, I always have a little treat ready for him.
As moms, we should know our children well—how to calm them during tantrums without turning into angry dinosaurs ourselves. It also means a lot to raise them to be close to God. The events this Sunday may have been simple, but for me and my son, it was a truly meaningful day. I treasure these bonding moments and keep them close to my heart.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. I hope to read more of yours as I roam around the community.
