Being able to take a step back in life either physically or mentally is very important. Why do I say so? Reason being taking a step back at times do help keeps us away from danger, for example, we might have unknowingly walk too close to a train platform and at risk of falling onto the track should we miss a step, at moments like this taking a step back will help reduce such risk.
That is physically step back, how about stepping back mentally? Have you ever find yourself in a situation where in a moment of anger, we shoot our mouth off in an argument and hurt the other party deeply emotionally and only for us to regret moments right after we said what we should not have? Yes, in situations like this, taking a mental step back help us to sort out our thoughts and often than not, help us avoid such regrets.
Lastly, let's not forget taking a step back in sports, especially contact sport or team sports. Simple example would be the famous step back 3 point jumper by NBA superstar Steph Curry and also Luka who always create some shooting space by taking a step back from opponents and shoots from downtown.
