Afternoon everyone….
Last night was obviously Halloween night. It was kinda crappy weather here with the tail end of hurricane Melissa rolling through. The western tail of hurricane Melissa broke off from the eye of the storm late Monday night while it was heading for Bermuda. This was the wind side of the eye and it stalled between Bermuda and the Atlantic coastline for two days before it decided to hug the coastline heading north. Well that gave us a very windy day and night with gusts over 60 mph at times. Which doesn’t bode well for tricker treaters.
My girlfriend son is fifteen and no longer goes tricker treating. But he was invited over a friends who was having a small gathering. One of the parents of another friend asked us if we wanted to go to a New Mexican place for an early dinner. We agreed
It’s a recently opened Mexican Taverna in the next town over. It took over an old factory building in a small town named Wharton. The name of the place is Norte 175.

The place is very well done inside. Very clean and well decorated. I was trying not to be obnoxious with taking pictures, the place was packed. Sorry, we will be back for sure. I’ll get more pictures then.
Here is how they bring out chips to the table:

The guacamole was spot on. Definitely handmade and mortise and pestle style. It had a nice complex flavor, nothing overpowered the other. You could taste every ingredient which is fairly rare in my travels. The salsa was also homemade, it tasted like flame grilled tomato salsa, I never asked to confirm.
I ordered the skirt steak with pineapple mango salsa. The steak was cooked perfectly, and very tender. The salsa was a very nice mixture of sweet and heat, not overpowering but noticeable. I was surprised when the plate came and it had these crispy potato finger like things on it. Well let me tell you….. these were amazing. The perfect crunch on the outside and was so tender and flaky on the inside.

I would order this again in a heartbeat. But there are a bunch of items on their menu that I’d also like to try.
Here are the smoked shrimp street tacos. They have a poblano chile creme on them, and a fire roasted corn salsa. They were very tasty, with just a spritz of lime on them.

I did not take pictures of the other couples food, I didn’t want to be weird with them. But I will tell you what they had. Heather had shrimp and chorizo orzo. It looked amazing, and smelt amazing. She was very happy with it. Her husband Steve got the carnita tacos which had a salsa verde, red onions and fresh cilantro on it. He devoured them, so I’m assuming they were good.
We headed back home to handle the rest of tricker treaters at the house which weren’t very many this year.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
