@josiva is a follower of my blog (among other blogs) and an avid Splinterlands player, just like @stokjockey. He is from Brazil and I did mention to him that I have a Brazilian coin! I don't recall @thebighigg showing a Brazilian coin, or any other stacker in Hive, or maybe I missed it.
Whenever I have thoughts of traveling to a certain place, I buy a coin from there. Now you know that I am thinking of travelling to Brazil! I have 3 or 4 coins from Brazil!
1857 Brazil Silver 1000 Réis
Produced during the years 1853 to 1866 of 0.917 fine silver by the Casa da Moeda do Brasil (Brazilian Mint), the Brazilian 1000 Réis coin is 30 mm in diameter.
Casa da Moeda do Brasil is the official mint of Brazil, responsible for the printing and minting of Brazilian currency. Located in Rio de Janeiro, it was founded in 1694 and is fully owned by the Brazilian government.
The reverse of the coin depicts the Brazilian Empire coat of arms, with inscriptions in Latin: IN HOC SI GNO VINCES which translates to English as "In this sign you will conquer."
The obverse inscription also in Latin: PETRUS II D.G. CONSTIMO.ET PERP.BRAS.DEF., meaning "Pedro II, by Grace of God Constitutional Emperor and Perpetual Defender of Brazil."
It also shows the coin's denomination in the center surrounded by leaves.
Which leaves? I don't know, so I asked CoPilot:
🌿 The 1857 Brazilian 1000 Réis coin features its denomination encircled by a leafy wreath on the obverse side. This wreath is composed of laurel and oak leaves, symbolizing victory and strength—classic motifs in imperial and numismatic design.
Pedro II of Brazil (1825–1891) was the second and last emperor of Brazil, reigning from 1831 to 1889. His reign is often regarded as a golden age for Brazil, marked by significant military victories, internal stability, and advancements in technology, economy, and social reforms, including the abolition of slavery. Known for his benevolence and popularity, Pedro II played a crucial role in Brazil's development as a nation-state, leaving a lasting legacy in Brazilian history. 1, 2
