I ordered a coin from Apmex, and got something better!
There is a mistake in my order. I thought I was buying a 1991 silver dollar.
But I got something better because the coin was older! Not by many years, but 5 years older.
This silver coin was minted in 1987 by the Royal Canadian Mint of Ottawa to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Davis' Arctic explorations... the Baffin Island, the Davis Strait, and the Gulf of Cumberland.
Holding the coin, I imagined the cold winds Davis must have faced. And the creaking wooden hulls against frozen waters. The chill enters my thoughts... brrrr, indeed!
Ahhh... what courage it must take to chase the unknown with grit and determination!!!

Even though the silver content is only .500, I don't really mind. I learn much from commemorative coins... about history, design, symbolism, and the stories behind coins such as this one. It makes this piece more valuable to me than the silver content.
