There was this red vintage Mustang on display during a car show in town. It was cherry red, the kind that doesn't just sit there... it poses. I swear it looked like it was built to outrun bad days.
The first thing I thought was that my brother would've lost his mind over this. He was always talking about Mustangs. He's got this stack of car magazines, and he'd point at old models like they were friends, calling them "beast" and "beauties". My brother made me believe that someday, somehow, he'd be cruising down in a vintage Mustang, just like this one, with the windows down, music blasting, and singing to Springsteen!
I just stood there... imagining my brother behind the wheel... grinning like a kid on Christmas! He always had this thing for muscle cars, ever since we watched Bullitt and he declared Steve McQueen his spirited animal.
I imagine buying the car for him and saying, "Here's the keys. No reason. Just because." LOL, and I imagined him laughing!
But he is gone.
Maybe one day I'll find another Mustang.
And maybe I'll drive it, music up, just for him.
