Hello hivers, an happy Saturday to you all!
This is a long weekend here, because yesterday was the "Ferragosto", the August 15th. Ferragosto is a public holiday here in Italy and in other countries. It came from the ancient "Feriae Augusti" when the Emperor Augustus decided to make the first day of August an holiday after the all the weeks of hard work in the agricultural field.
After the Catholic Church decided to give a religious touch to the holiday moving it to 15 August (the day to celebrate the Assumption of Mary), so now we celebrate this day in the middle of August.
When I was a child and I lived in the small village where I was born the Ferragosto was really a special happy day, because there was a nice festival all around the church (the church is dedicated to Saint Mary). Many people from other villages used to come there to eat cakes, to listen music, to stay all together and, after the dinner, there were also beatiful fireworks.
Along the years the festival become smaller than before, but it's always a way to meet all together for people who lives there.
I use to go there almost every year (my mom lives in that village), but yesterday was really too hot to move us from the city and so me and my hubby spent the most part of the day in relax on the sofa and we went out for a little walk just after the dinner.
I had my camera with me and so I took some pics around to show you what we had around during our walk, starting from a nice large family of ducks. ❤️
There are 8 young ducks with 2 female adult ones. They are around 2-3 months old (I know their age because we watched them when they were newborns) . ❤️
It was a very quiet Ferragosto for us, but it was not so bad to stay a day in relax. 😊
