Handmade treasures in crochet

I started crocheting some small pieces again, and it reminded me why I fell in love with the technique years ago. I’ve always loved the autonomy and the possibility of bringing to life objects and clothes I had always wanted to own. Since I couldn’t afford to commission those projects and pay an artisan fairly for such rich and detailed work, learning how to do it myself always seemed like the best solution. It hasn’t always been easy and still isn’t, but I’ve gotten much more comfortable following patterns and achieving results that feel satisfying to me.

A few pieces I had been wanting for a long time finally came to life: the first one was a book cover, so I could carry my book safely in my bag. I used the granny square technique, crocheting twelve squares, six for the front and six for the back. Then I added a few rows of double crochet around the edges to make it better fit the size of a book cover. I fell in love with the result and have been using it every day. I love how practical and cheerful it turned out.

I was feeling inspired, so I went ahead and made a second piece. This time, I used granny squares I had crocheted quite a while ago, leftovers from a previous project. I had kept them, waiting for the right opportunity to use them, and that moment finally arrived. I joined four squares, two for each side of this little bag, and then stitched the sides together with a tapestry needle. To finish it off, I made a strap of single crochet and added a ruffle along the opening. It became a small crossbody bag for my phone, perfect for when I want my hands free but still need easy access to my phone.

I loved how colorful it turned out as well.
