Yogurt is an integral part of Bengali culture. It is not only a delicious food item. It is a healthy food full of hot nutrients. Yogurt is made and eaten in different regions of Bangladesh, especially in the Bogra, Natore, Comilla, Naogaon, and Rajshahi regions. Yogurt is mainly made from milk. It is a fermented food where certain beneficial bacteria are added to milk and turned into yogurt. These bacteria convert the lactose in milk into lactic acid. As a result, the milk thickens and turns into sour and sweet yogurt. Yogurt is very beneficial in terms of nutrients. It contains protein, calcium, vitamin B1, B12, potassium, etc. Calcium in particular prevents tooth and bone decay and plays a role in their formation. Due to the presence of bacteria, it helps in digestion. It maintains good intestinal health and increases immunity. Dieticians recommend including yogurt in the diet every day to lose weight and keep the digestive system healthy. Yogurt is eaten in different ways, it is eaten as breakfast, after a heavy lunch, or as an afternoon snack. Yogurt is an essential ingredient in various Bengali festivals such as weddings, pujas, Eid or other occasions.Yogurt is supplied in the sweet shops in the market. But the yogurts made outside are too sweet and saccharin or various formalins are used in them, so it is better to make yogurt at home with milk than buying it from outside. Making it at home is a very simple and easy task. Ordinary milk is now thickened, then milk is put in an earthen pot, covered with a heavy cloth and kept for 8 hours. Finally, it can be said that yogurt is not only good for taste but also for health, so yogurt should be included in the daily diet.
