Urva edwardsii

In the diverse treasures of nature, there is a small but brave animal named Urva edwardsii. Which is commonly called Indian Gray Mongoose or Gray Mongoose. However, in our Bangladesh it is only known as Beji. It is seen a lot in different places of our Khulna division. I have noticed their roaming around forests, crop fields and even human settlements. I am used to seeing them since childhood. I have noticed that such animals stay around people's houses. For example, I have photographed from a corner of a crop field. Urva edwardsii's body is longer than one hand. Blending into the natural environment, it protects them from being caught by predators. The eyes are small and sharp, and the nose is always alert. The narrow head and long body make them fast and efficient in hunting. Although Urva edwardsii is omnivorous, they mainly eat insects, lizards, frogs, mice, small birds and eggs. They are especially famous for hunting snakes. Their bravery is widely known for their ability to fight and win against poisonous snakes. Due to the special protein in their body, they have some resistance to snake venom, which makes them different from other animals. Sometimes, these animals are seen in the homes of different people. I have noticed that they move around the forests as well as around people's houses and catch and eat domestic birds. In short, they are quite accustomed to hunting and do their job when they get the chance. I have also noticed that their body markings help them hide in the natural environment. As you can see, their appearance is quite similar to the appearance of damaged crops in the field.
