Wednesday Walk - In the Flowers

Here is another visit to the flowers for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay 1000002161.jpg I found a locust borer (Meacyllene robiniae) hanging around on some yellow flowers.

1000002163.jpg I suspect they have these bold colors to blend in with their favorite food and to mimic wasps.

1000002156.jpg They seem right at home with the wasps collecting pollen. They even kind of fly like a wasp. No bird will mess with something colored like this.

1000002157.jpg Now for the real thing. They are fine so long as you aren't near their nests or try and catch them.

1000002158.jpg Nice and important pollinators. But beware they can sting you multiple times and they send out a pheromone to call in their buddies to help sting you.

1000002162.jpg A nice clumsy bumble bee that can only see about a foot in each direction. They must have a good sense of smell to locate flowers. I just learned they do make honey, but it is a tiny amount compared to honey bees.

1000002159.jpg Plenty of honey bees are always around the flower patch too.

1000002160.jpg They mostly were going for purple and blue flowers on this day.

1000002154.jpg I found a horrible scene later on my walk. A decapitated rabbit from a hawk. Now the left overs are getting eaten by meat bees aka ground nesting wasps. You should look up images of their horrific looking nests lol. Something good for a horror movie. 1000002155.jpg Now back for some more honeybees on a perfect purple flower. Much nicer than the meat bees lol.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
