Hello Open mic community, it's week #254 of our weekly concert and as always I'm super excited to share my entry. I trust we all are doing okay, In line with this week's theme "Break Away", I'd be covering a song by Nigerian-French singer, songwriter and recording artist Ásà called "Bibanke". This song was released almost 2 decades ago in the year 2007, I remember being in my teenage years and loving this amazing record and I'm just so glad I get to make a cover of it 😊.
Bibánke is a yoruba word which means when I cry in English, the song is a dirge for love lost, a cliché tale of the natural death that love experiences when one of the two parties in a relationship senses danger signals early on in a relationship, but continues to fall deeper into the hole, until they suddenly hit rock bottom. It all starts too sweet and perfect to imagine, she then realizes that she should use her head first instead of her heart while falling in love to avoid heartaches. Sorrow is inevitable in the end, she says when she cries (Bibánké), she wants to be left alone and not consoled, even if she cries a river or a waterfall because she gave it her best and her all but look where it led her 💔. Breaking away from a toxic relationship is better than being in one, it's not worth it at all. Protect your heart, your peace of mind is essential. Hola comunidad de Open Mic, es la semana n.° 254 de nuestro concierto semanal y, como siempre, estoy muy emocionada de compartir mi participación. Confío en que todos estemos bien. En línea con el tema de esta semana, "Break Away", haré una versión de una canción de la cantante, compositora y artista discográfica franco-nigeriana Ásà llamada "Bibanke". Esta canción se lanzó hace casi 2 décadas en el año 2007. Recuerdo que era adolescente y amaba este increíble disco y estoy muy contenta de poder hacer una versión de él 😊.
Bibánke es una palabra yoruba que significa cuando lloro en inglés. La canción es un canto fúnebre por el amor perdido, una historia cliché sobre la muerte natural que experimenta el amor cuando una de las dos partes de una relación detecta señales de peligro al principio de la relación, pero continúa cayendo más profundamente en el agujero, hasta que de repente toca fondo. Todo comienza demasiado dulce y perfecto para imaginarlo, luego se da cuenta de que debería usar su cabeza primero en lugar de su corazón mientras se enamora para evitar dolores de corazón. El dolor es inevitable al final, dice que cuando llora (Bibánké), quiere que la dejen sola y que no la consuelen, incluso si llora un río o una cascada porque dio lo mejor de sí y todo lo que tenía, pero mira a dónde la llevó 💔. Romper con una relación tóxica es mejor que estar en una, no vale la pena en absoluto. Protege tu corazón, tu paz mental es esencial. Definitivamente dolerá, pero al final estarás bien.
