Gramel the Hunger is one of those cards that looks weird at first but starts to make sense the more you try it. He is the first unit in 7 years of Splinterlands to gain all the attack types. His stats aren’t the best, but when used right, he can apply pressure across the board without getting hit himself. This is especially true once you've tried using him in max level, with all his increased stats and abilities available.
Lore
“It wears your face. It speaks with your voice. And when it claims its next victim, it’ll eat them with your mouth.”
Portia Nyr summoned Gramel the Hunger and its arcane skinwalkers from the Plane of Chaos to serve the Conclave Arcana. But in her boundless ambition and pride, she mistook dominion for submission.

Stats
Gramel the Hunger is a strong and useful attacker that can adapt in many lineups thanks to his triple attack types. He isn't a frontliner or a tank but he can chip away from the back when protected properly. I think pairing him with units that boosts his attacks can make him a real threat especially if you keep him protected the whole match. Archons that gives additional effects to attacks are also really good with him like Nidhoggr's Blasts and Lorkus's Life Leech (and in Wild Ranked Format, Waka Spiritblade's Poison).

Good Rules to Consider
Icon | Name | Reason |
---|---|---|
![]() |
Equal Opportunity | All units have Opportunity (targets the enemy unit with the least health). |
Just like with Super Sneak, with Gramel the Hunger's Camouflage, he avoids being targetted even when all units have Opportunity. | ||
![]() |
Explosive Weaponry | All units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up). |
Multiple attack types means multiple chances for Blast damage, especially with Relentless Strike. Each attack does their own Blast attack so Gramel the Hunger does 3 Blasts each round on his own. | ||
![]() |
Fog of War | Units lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities. |
Gramel the Hunger's Charge and Scattershot is unaffected in Fog of War giving you all the benefits of the rule without any down sides. |
Bad Rules to Think Twice
Icon | Name | Reason |
---|---|---|
![]() |
Keep Your Distance | Units with Melee attack may not be used in battles. |
Unlike Wands Out rule, when there's a rule that stops you from using a certain attack, Gramel will also not be allowed like in Broken Arrows rule or Lost Magic rule. | ||
![]() |
Briar Patch | All units have Thorns (returns 2 damage to attacker when hit by a melee attack) |
Since all units have Thorns, every attack of Gramel the Hunger inflicts damage back to him. | ||
![]() |
Armored Up | All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. |
Wihle still completely usable, this still hinders Gramel the Hunger's attacks since two of his three attacks can be blocked by armor. This is especially problematic in lower levels since Gramel the Hunger does not have high attacks. |
Battle
I quickly picked up Nidhoggr with Gramel the Hunger as my main combo when I saw Holy Protection rule. This combo of Nidhoggr's Blast and Gramel the Hunger's multi Scattershot attacks can quickly remove the Divine Shield form my enemy's team giving me an insane advantage. It doesn't matter if they use Taunt units because Scattershot ignores it making Gramel the Hunger a really good unit to use Blast with. While I had issues with the enemy's Repair, I still won by round 5 due to the hard to counter multi-attack type of Gramel the Hunger.
