Another Dance Classics post?... well kind of. It's been a while since I hit HIVE with a music post, but what type?

If you know me, then you will probably know by the turn of the century that my ears were turning sour to popular music. Now, I don't even listen to the new shit that's on offer.

@dismayedworld only last week, advised me not to bother listening to the current top twenty. I find that comment disturbing. At the age of 21, I was engrossed in music and loved 90% of what was on offer.

If it was just me getting old and stuck in the nineties, I could fully understand that concept, but a 'don't bother listening to any of that shit, cuz I don't'.., well, it makes me think that when all these old legends die, there will be nobody left.

Except Taylor Swift, and sorry, but I am not a big fan. I don't hear anything special, but she must have something, and I respect that.

The turn of the century; It was still decent, at least for a little while. Let me take you back 25 years or less, and if you are younger than 30, then there's probably something new here for you.

All Saints – Black Coffee (Saints & Sinners – 2000)

This girly band turned up in the late 1990s and had a massive hit with 'Never Ever'. On the sidelines, I was cringing and throwing up. Fuck.. do we need another Spice Girls, but worse, as this was verging on nauseating.

While ‘Never Ever’ might have been a huge hit in the UK, it didn’t even turn a single head in the US, but mind you, the rest of their short discography also didn't register.

I had written them off, more of that 'Girl Power' bullshit that was feeding the feminists of that time. Then three years later, I heard 'Pure Shores’ and that got my ear.

While 'Pure' was decent, the follow-up, 'Black Coffee', did it. That chorus line was so catchy, and I was able to listen and keep my bacon sandwich down. Had they changed, and this was going to set a precedent?

I don't know, as after this, besides the lacklustre 'War of Nerves', All Saints fell by the wayside and vanished.

Delerium featuring Sarah McLachlan – Silence (Karma – 1999)

![smal_16642illustrationofanelectricguitarpv.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/slobberchops/K8FtI6SX-smal_16642-illustration-of-an-electric-guitar-pv.jpg)

We didn't quite make it to 2000, but it's close. This is a nineties song, and you can hear it. If you didn't already know it, the nineties was the decade of dance music; it was great if you loved this type of music.

Sarah McLachlan carved out a career for herself as a solo artist, but just like in today's world, where no bastard can make a song themselves… such as 'Calvin Harris featuring Jimmy Harris and Arnold Cuntface' is quite normal…, there were a few of these before it became mainstream.

There's also a lot of mixes of this song, too bloody many and finding the regular one took a little searching. Sarah's vocals bring this one out, but by itself, it's a hypnotic number that caught my ear around the year 2000.

Shapeshifters – Lola's Theme (Sound Advice – 2004)

![smal_16642illustrationofanelectricguitarpv.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/slobberchops/K8FtI6SX-smal_16642-illustration-of-an-electric-guitar-pv.jpg)

2004, well, what do you know? I was quite sure this one turned up around 2000, and it makes me happy to see something in the 00's that was actually quite good.

Lola's Theme still sounds like it belongs in the 1990s, though it does have that fade-in, fade-out mechanic that grew to be quite popular in the early 00's.

It's all clear, then it goes murky.., well, just listen to it, there's probably a technical term for that type of sound from this period.

As usual, it was ignored by the Americans, as they don't tend to like the Euro-style of dance music. In the UK, it was number one, but I could not have told you that until now.

You see, by 2004, I was already ignoring the music scene, at least the popular type. It would progressively get worse, and by the 10's.., there was little left.

Now, well, if you like what you are hearing, then all I can see is that you are easily pleased.

Even now, I am still tempted to go and listen to the UK top ten. Is everything really so shit, would I be wasting 30 minutes of my life?

Number 1.JPG

Amazingly, I have heard of Chappel Roan, thanks to @dismayedworld, whereas 'HUNTR/X featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna & Rei’ confirms to me that to have a hit, half a dozen people need to be credited.

It's OK, I suppose, but it's hardly raising any bumps on my arms. Should I bother listening to 'HUNTR/X’ as well as their cronies?
