Can’t even believe the day will come very soon
It was definitely some jokes when we were younger like “guess who’s going to get married first out of all of us”. It feels like yesterday when we thought “marriage” was still a long way off. But now, some of my friends are really becoming a wife. Time flies, doesn’t it?
Last sunday, one of my childhood friend asked me to go to car free day with her. She wanted to find a drink stall for her wedding day. She come up with an “UMKM” concept for her wedding, which mean that the food, drinks, and snacks she would provide are from small to medium enterprises. She really makes it complicated by trying to find each stall one by one🤣 Honestly, her effort deserves an applause. That's a unique concept, and she want to make it happen.
We went to the Car Free Day, but it turned out there wasn’t one😂 I pesonally didn’t know the reason because last sunday was also my country’s independence day, but the weekly CFD event wasn’t even open that day. But the park is always open, and it’s surrounded by so many food and drink stalls. We explored it to find the specific brand of the that she was looking for. But first, street food😅 you can’t go to an area like this without spending money on street foods, right?
My friend actually sells dimsum mentai when she has free time, so she was probably attracted to the dimsum stall with a sign like “start from 1.000” which means it costs around $0.07 per piece🤣 there’s no way people could sell dimsum mentai with that price, so she bought it. It turned out there were some type of frozen snacks that they fry for IDR1.000, but siomay or dimsum cost theree time as much per piece. It was also only served with mayonnaise and reguler sauce, so it was a prank or the best marketing right there😅
We bought some other traditional snacks like lumpia (spring rolls), getas (don’t even know how to explain this one), our childhood milk brand (in my thumbnail) and also mochi. Then my friend finally found the brand of tea that she was looking for. She asked the owner about bulk order, how the delivery service and so on. What funny was my friend also recognized the owner’s face from tiktok haha it turned out that the owner’s daughter was promoting her parents' stalls on social media. The owner gave my friend his daughter’s phone number for further information. She thanked him, and we left.
Realizing that my childhood friend is about to get married very soon really hit me. Especially after we got home from the park, she asked me to try on the bridesmaids’ dresses that she’d prepared for me and our other childhood friend group. I personally felt far from ready to be a wife, so seeing my friends get married one by one, left me with mixed emotion and bitter-sweet feeling. This particular friend is someone I’d often spent time with, doing the same things when we were in the similar phase–like when we were both working on our theses to graduate college, or something simpler but meaningful enough like jogging together every few days to build a habit.
After she’s about getting married, I bet we won’t be able to spend time the same way, that’s obvious. But I’m happy for the new chapter that she’s about to embark on. Our houses are only a few meters away, so we might still be able to do things together once in a while. Have you experienced something similar where your childhood friend step into different kind of life and you realize everything between you and them is about change completely?
