Hello, fellow travelers!

The nice weather is slowly coming to an end. Summer is leaving us, and the cold winter is coming our way. I decided to use the last nice days to travel. I have been to beautiful and interesting locations, and I also have two more locations waiting for me in October. I am grateful and very happy to be able to visit them and share them with you, to convey my impressions to you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. ## Vrsac Fortress ![20250906_103818.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EqL7KiDQd3YnkmACVtv2kLUTbjSutzXUJ1bM5ozx5t34WBtDqLK1tVeRHchphkQCUY9.jpg) The first location I will write about is in the country where I live in Serbia. Although we often like to look into someone else's backyard, we forget how beautiful our country is, rich in history and surrounded by clean, green and diverse nature. My final destination on this trip was Timisoara, but I mostly moved through breathtaking landscapes, through endless fields, vineyards and peaceful towns. It was on this trip that I came across Vršac. And when you find yourself in that city, it is almost impossible not to look at the top of the hill where the Vršac Fortress proudly stands. I couldn't resist, I had to turn off the road and climb up to it. And believe me, it was worth every step. The view from the walls is one that is difficult to describe in words. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong. 😄 ![20250906_103622.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EptaVDvsySnFtr7FL3fR5cH1hcqt2uJneSyZRmQvvHFffYPapZs2mmzEC41EsbZDaRr.jpg) When you stand in front of the Vršac Fortress, you immediately have the feeling that you are looking at something that is not just a building, but a story carved in stone. High on a hill, as if it is watching over the entire city, the fortress has stood for centuries, guarding the secrets of the past and reminding you that Vršac was much more than a small Banat town. ![20250906_103426.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/Eq7KzicMeqUAC2wu71DpiMFxD4niNRDhcM8jZzBZQLFn4oMwfEokMhcAEKE7jXLLhPr.jpg) ![20250906_103640.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/241tT7VUXefy58qoDBLt3ktEcRzXLR5jMQ5uPPAKxreHn9FzMHQ5SSu7GcNfhFFv1rUi8.jpg) ![20250906_104218.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23zGW4bRA7izVvSFpmMomrSoPLstnh45GgGTNbv9MEoHFtz18sQcYgu6kUcAU6qpXkSvx.jpg) ![20250906_104623.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23ywkjX9L9t5yzcoHT7UALLD3U6WBQNtHuvK3oXnGoNjbsmGe3qCydHsPD8P7xv881QQp.jpg) According to tradition, the Vršac Fortress was built by the Hungarians in the 15th century, most likely on the site of an older fortress. It was probably built during the time of John Hunyadi, the famous Hungarian military leader, as part of the defence against the Turks. Its location was ideal, and from the hill, it was possible to see the entire Banat plain, so the enemy could never surprise the defenders. The Turks conquered it in the 16th century and used it as their military outpost, but after the liberation of Banat in the 18th century, the fortress lost its military significance. Today, the best preserved of the entire complex is the main tower, a recognisable symbol of Vršac. ![20250906_103633.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/243zZnwe5yBZY1wX9zFTXRkoUBibHdn2BbHdXjKde9tvhGf5hjvaBZHuzkZG7Qjunh13u.jpg) ![20250906_104209.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/244xsAGtJErrkFwKmquL7q7GzaVLYgTy5v2TwA8NoL4GrKrVgDjiwudmETdGTXUnQyvNY.jpg) ![20250906_104152.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/245wKb1FoG4sRqrG2AFoFG9DFSTumTWU99PvxE3ZAntTsKZgz6c7yhoYt3zAAtAwSrKhP.jpg) ![20250906_104159.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23wMeXyiJW1QKtUkhx9SynAahambUpzrwheFJEuKkna943BjcsykwsUZF4tV8HMqoDni8.jpg) ### 🌄 A view worth the climb If you climb to the fortress, expect to be rewarded with one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Serbia. On one side, you see the endless Pannonian plain stretching into infinity, and on the other, vineyards and gently rolling hills. On sunny days, they say that you can even see Romania from the fortress. It’s no wonder that locals love to come here for a walk or to spend a quiet afternoon sitting on the walls, enjoying the view. Sometimes, the silence is broken only by the wind passing through the cracks of the old stone. ![20250906_104627.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EnaZLR4hetqsUDsZtbvesZ3asc1pd2K46tiHqW7KzbcYBHLwYSdrYhVyt19XSQcUo8Z.jpg) ![20250906_104233.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EqQNf79G5bptGGC6iyokyPVph2aqs5G8x6R6tbwtxjbz86uc7dGbntzf9f4Bnj757J6.jpg) ![20250906_103406.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EnWJ2jmyZ913F7rtTaZCSv9whE2FEJvjYjX9PRZZN6u7mWxGUG2fa2DwGzAnvsVVRCx.jpg) ![20250906_104251.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/244e7nGbQXhvx39231WGoM8N5Y7uZ1hnQznTq8erUXHJqdCFKhZvyGsyqgAPmQVSQtMuM.jpg) ![20250906_104240.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23zGYDSVNSZC4fXcZw5LggykCPR5m3hBYwFbvuFfLyTs7cyqddpHCsdTvaA21wmj3qDSi.jpg) Unique architecture: The fortress had a rectangular base with four towers, but today only one is preserved, which has become a symbol of the city. The city under the fortress: Archaeologists believe that a small medieval city once existed at the foot of the hill, with houses and shops. Legend of the tunnels: There is a story that secret tunnels led from the fortress all the way to Vršac itself, and perhaps to nearby monasteries. Of course, they have never been fully explored, but they provide good fuel for travellers' imaginations. Symbol on the city's coat of arms: The Vršac fortress is not only a tourist attraction, but also one of the most important symbols of Vršac. Its outline also adorns the city's official coat of arms. ![20250906_104648.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23zGYLknyLPCFVCkVwPeUjNsCTkY5sWdEnZsLsxCsBqYoxZcAfkX8ChqpPYo9DEvaWd69.jpg) ![20250906_103421.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/243LxVBRuv2efyotL3zr5jacMhqYHUpKpdRq4YCLxvkqndhiytmdGk1gC3mrP5t21utyB.jpg) ![20250906_103443.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/23xyNcTjniqbopwRXiTmc2W48FdDxrsTp66HwQWWLjngZj1gQ581iXzn24S7WYXCmKY3a.jpg) Another charm is that the fortress is located in an area known for its vineyards. Vršac is one of the oldest vineyards in this part of Europe, and vines have been grown here even by the ancient Romans. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the fortress guarded this area, as it was both a strategically and economically important area. Today, after a walk to the fortress, many travellers like to go down to the city and try a glass of Vrsac wine, as the most beautiful way to round off the story. ![20250906_103559.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/Eq9UqfxuiFX2GLJ2BxnfJo9bYZxa3iDcGkM4Qu8ed8DgzPB7DypuuSAormDcCMdVm94.jpg) ![20250906_103656.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EoMEGGgveUj2keDCyoqsqnMXcpEnpyidXvWHEgSB9FtjLjJdXUn4vhGoszjhcv4EgNF.jpg) ![20250906_103648.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EqQNApY1RNCDGkDDH4HRJxgaJV5t79KyubytESEr3F6nBNuSvBva9P3jge3vi5PY3sZ.jpg) ![20250906_103811.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EnoKcuJqm88wkBR3hCeKAZb1aRvs3duABpzqcfNaauWKYz4biwGygHz6tnWhszHZDLN.jpg) ![20250906_103721.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/243BcGwMMvHZC2t1JRZaqVF9Uzc2MrwEMhvFsBHGjsHSxevyatv2Y8sRestoeWFixJpJu.jpg) ![20250906_103731.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EqBbiw8jatt7kbTxekvNeN9JANN9uMX7QGVZhQTXnwkG5a3MnLXLmf6yMjHcEQWKyyL.jpg) Although today the fortress is no longer in military service, its role has not disappeared. It is a keeper of memories, a witness of centuries and a place that takes you back to the past, while at the same time providing one of the most beautiful views of the present. When you stand on its walls, everything around you seems small - problems, everyday life, and worries. The fortress quietly reminds you that time is fleeting, but that the beauty of nature and traces of the past remain. ![20250906_103902.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sniki003/EqNFeK1YzoCAtZnkGMB1eeRP8VCdwZew86D2jXyyeF9pXK1SdDVHyxGVsT28YCSeLZ3.jpg)
