Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge - My approaches vs. Global Warming ruleset

Hello all Splinters,

This is my entry for the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge 👍. This week's theme is Battlefield Breakdowns, where you can share a breakdown of your card choices and key decisions.

There are some new rulesets in the game recently. Today, I would like to share with you a battle with a new one - Global Warming. This battle is in Frontier format.

In the last few months, I haven't played SPL as often as I used to. The key point is that I no longer feel the joy when playing the game, even with SPS rewards. The game is moving in the direction of "money over skill", in which rich players who can afford to buy the strong cards always win the battle, especially in Modern and Wild formats. However, the Frontier format is more fun even without the rewards. I can face players (hope they're not the bot from SPL to enhance the matching process) with the same card level, and I need to find the right strategy to win the battle, instead of using overpowered cards to hammer the opponent.

1. The ruleset

  • 52 mana cap - a high mana cap battle

  • Global Warming - all monsters got Burned at the beginning of the battle, which causes 2 damage each round and Heavy Hitter - all monsters have Knock Out ability

  • All Splinters can be used in this battle

With Global Warming ruleset, I prefer some approaches as below

  • Monsters with high HP. The more HP your monsters have, the longer they can stay on the battlefield

  • Monsters with Heal or Tank Heal ability, which help to recover monsters' HP from Burned effect.

  • Monsters with Cleanse ability, which helps to remove the Burned effect for tankers.

2. My team lineup

With the above approaches, I chose Earth Splinter for this battle. Here is my team lineup

Summoner

Aurelia - I chose her to add 1 more HP to all of my monsters with the hope they can stand longer on the battlefield

1st position

Great Bear Druid - I put him as the tanker in this battle to deal more damage to the opponent's tankers.

2nd position

Dread Tafarian - I chose him because his Heal ability is useful in this battle as I explained above

3rd position

Time Bandit - I chose him because of his Cleanse ability

4th position

Kicking Roc - a powerful range monster with 3 range attacks. He can deal as much damage to the opponent's monsters as possible before being burned completely.

5th position

Grand Consul Minion - frankly, I don't see him as "grand" because he has only 1 HP. I put him here just to utilize all of the mana

6th position

New Beluroc Aegis - I want to put him here to attract some attacks from the opponent's monsters with his Taunt ability

3. The battle

  • My opponent also chose a similar strategy - Aurelia as the summoner with Dread Tafarian, Time Bandit, and Kicking Roc.

  • In round 1, New Beluroc Aegis attracted all the hits from the opponent team and was blown away immediately. However, my team could also cause some damage to Dread Tafarian, which created a precondition to kill him in the next round

  • In round 2, Dread Tafarian of Flick05 was killed immediately after being hit by Burned effect and my Great Bear Druid. Lately, Great Bear Druid was killed and my Dread Tafarian stepped up as the tanker. He was lately removed the Burned effect by Time Bandit.

  • In round 3, Flick05 still had 4 monsters with low HP while my team had only 3 monsters. However, my Dread Tafarian and Time Bandit were still survived which gave me the confidence to win the game.

  • In round 4, all remaining monsters on Flick05's side were completely burned and I won the game.

I hope you enjoy these battles, find some useful information in this post.

Have a nice weekend!
