Las primeras veces de cualquier cosa importante que hayamos hecho siempre son algo que se recuerda, y esta foto que comparto hoy tiene que ver con eso. Tenía un par de meses en un nuevo trabajo, como reportera de cultura, y ese día la pauta que me tocaba cubrir era en una galería de arte, donde un reconocido pintor venezolano iba a inaugurar una exposición.
La cita era como a las 10:00 de la mañana en la Galería Freites, ubicada en Las Mercedes, Caracas (Venezuela), y el protagonista era Jacobo Borges, destacado dibujante, pintor, cineasta y escenógrafo nacido en 1931, con una extensa trayectoria artística dentro y fuera del país. Era la primera vez que iba a entrevistar a un artista plástico de renombre nacional e internacional, y aunque estaba un poco nerviosa, todo fluyó muy bien cuando me acerqué a hablar con él.
La exposición que inauguró Jacobo Borges tenía como título “Sala con ventana al mar”, y estaba compuesta por 15 pinturas. Su arte es neofigurativo, un movimiento que surgió a mitad del siglo XX y que representa la realidad con una estética parecida al expresionismo.
Cuando el evento finalizó, el artista me firmó el libro de la exposición, que entregaron a cada uno de los asistentes, y después fui a dar una vuelta por las demás salas de la galería. Allí, el fotógrafo que me acompañaba me hizo esta foto, me hubiese gustado tener una foto con Borges, pero en ese momento no se me ocurrió pedirla, cosas que uno piensa después…

The first times we do anything important are always memorable, and the photo I'm sharing today has to do with that. I had been working for a couple of months in a new job as a culture reporter, and that day I was assigned to cover an event at an art gallery, where a renowned Venezuelan painter was opening an exhibition.
The appointment was at around 10:00 a.m. at the Freites Gallery, located in Las Mercedes, Caracas (Venezuela), and the protagonist was Jacobo Borges, a prominent draftsman, painter, filmmaker, and set designer born in 1931, with an extensive artistic career both inside and outside the country. It was the first time I was going to interview a nationally and internationally renowned visual artist, and although I was a little nervous, everything went very well when I approached him to talk.
The exhibition that Jacobo Borges opened was titled “Sala con ventana al mar” (Room with a Window to the Sea) and consisted of 15 paintings. His art is neo-figurative, a movement that emerged in the mid-20th century and represents reality with an aesthetic similar to expressionism.
When the event ended, the artist signed my copy of the exhibition book, which was given to each of the attendees, and then I went to take a look around the other rooms in the gallery. There, the photographer who was with me took this photo of me, I would have liked to have a photo with Borges, but at that moment it didn’t occur to me to ask for it, things you think of afterwards...
