When I walked out to my workshop yesterday I was greeted by the peacock. Kinda surprised me as I was not expecting it to be right next to me, but it just stood there looking back at me.. so yeah the peacock is still hanging around, its been taking a liking to its game bird feed more. We offer it cat food as well so it can pick whatever it wants.
It is not scared of us.. it wont let me pet it or anything like that. But if you keep your distance it just hangs around.. Unlike the turkey that flee as soon as they see you.
Seems as the seasons are starting to change so are its habits.. Its coming in to eat and roost a little earlier now. We are figuring out how to build it some kind of place to hang out in the winter.. from what I read it needs some overhead cover and wind protection. So maybe I will build it a spot in the barn.. lol Its okay still got a few months before the weather turns bad.
We are still slowly going through the garlic we harvested this year. In less than a month we are going to be planting a order of garlic in the fields.. fun times.
Our direct sow plants did great.. we had raddish earlier this year and just got our carrots.. I think we waited a little too long to harvest carrots but most of them are still pretty tasty.
We ended up putting a cover crop on the garlic area, and just cut it. It was growing for a few months. We had some buckwheat, clover, oats, chickory, alfalfa and some other good plants growing there.. We chopped and dropped it. And now its time to add more wood chips.
I requested 20 loads of wood chips to be delivered, they are a little over half way there. So I started adding what was onsite to the field.
Really happy to have the skidsteer for work like this.
I just drive around in my air conditioned cabin listening to some music or a podcast.
Trying to encourage the turkey to get closer, so I am throwing some of that feed out in hopes they will find it. It the same stuff the peacock eats.
Hope they can find it among the grass.
Cleaning out and refilling the hummingbird feeder. Every time I refill it I scrub it out with soapy water and rinse well.
Making the sugar water is refined sugar, half cup mixed in with the water I add to the feeder.
Its a really simple design.. looks like the brand is first nature.
Carrying it outside, I do not flip it until last minute.. so I do not get sugar water all over me and floor.. lol
All set, they have food for a few days now. Hopefully the peacock, turkeys and hummingbirds all find their favorite treats. And I will enjoy mine.
