Outdoor cannabis grow - the flowering has begun

It seems this plant knows the changing of the seasons is soon approaching. I see buds forming on the tops of the colas and should not be long before they start to stretch. Right now the plant is maybe four feet tall, though I do not think its going to stop there.. And should keep growing for another month or so. I am now down to one plant, as the other seeds ended up being males. So its time to focus on just this one plant for now. That reminds me to focus on only on feminized seeds in the future, its always frustrating putting time into growing plants just for them to turn out not to be what I wanted.

So far the end of summer has been quite dry. I went outside a few times in the last week to water it to make sure it gets enough. Also been watching the hurricane formations, and if one looks like its coming towards us I am going to need to find a way to stop the plant from getting flooded. As last year that caused a lot of bud rot to form.

But for now its just keeping the weeds around the weed plant at bay, and it seems quite happy with its current setup. Once this plant is done it will be time to move onto growing indoors. As the frosts will be showing up late October and staying with us until April or so of next year. So that will give me time to grow some new plants.. At least one maybe two grows during the winter. Looking forward to being back indoors for the grows.. has a different feeling than growing outside.

The plant has been topped once so it will be interesting to see how many buds and colas form. Usually when you do not trim them they grow more in a “Christmas tree” shape. But once topped they tend to grow more in a bush shape.

It looks really healthy but I am sure its looking for more nutrients.. Since its been quite dry I should really focus on using liquid fertilizers. When it is wet outside I do the opposite and use dry based fertilizers.

So now this plant will grow for another few months.. Probably sometime in October it should be ready for harvest I would think. I will keep an eye on the buds and when we see a change in the hairs its time to check them with the microscope.

In the mean time I will check on it every few days and start to feed it some flowering fertilizer and moving away from the nitrogen heavy stuff and moving into the phosphorus and potassium consumption phase.

This is my second year growing outdoors, so most of this is new to me. But I am thankful that I can grow here legally and with the nice weather we get here in Virginia I figured I should be making the best of what is offered.
