The Last Round of Liga Team Chess

Hello, chess players and lovers of the beautiful game of chess,

It is nice to have you here on my blog once again, as I have slowly become a steady chess player on Hive. I enjoy playing the game because of the lessons I get to learn when I lose a game against better players, especially during the HiveChess Saturday Tournament, which is coming this Saturday.

Gracefully, I got back from work today earlier despite the unforeseen delays I experienced while in transit. So I was able to participate in the Liga Chess Team battle, which, according to @stayoutoftherz, happens to be our last team tournament.

So I held it at the back of my mind that I would like to put up an impressive performance as a means of saying goodbye to the tournament. Well, it was not a starstruck performance, but it was something decent. I had a 50/50 win and loss rate. I won 7 games and lost 7 games, thereby giving me 18 points and placing me as the fourth player with the most points on the Blockchain Chess Team and 30th on the final player's ranking.

I had some exciting games against some interesting players, but I had a lot of missed wins, so sad when you play a game well, only to lose it all at the end, all thanks to a bad move.

In this game against a 2299 player, I went for bishop capture on g6. I wanted to stay on the offensive side of things, putting in more attacks, but after I checked the game with the engine, there was nothing much there. It led to a simple draw, but it all depends on where black places his king.
Kf8 is bad, and Kh8 is the better choice, that is, after I play Qg6+.

Black played the poor choice, Kf8. Can you spot the best move I missed?

It is Bc1, planning to move the bishop to a6, on the next move, and if any complications, I create a passed pawn on the h-file. I missed this when I played Qh6+ instead; it was quite devastating because I still lost the game.

The next game is against a 2100-rated player, whom I will be coming for his rating soon. Probably next week, I will try my best to get to 2100 and see how far I can go. In this game, I found a brilliant move.

See if you can spot it

Yeah, it was a knight move. Knight to g5, attacking the king and the queen on a3. The pawn on f6 cannot capture because of the rook on f2.

After this move, it was not long enough; my opponent resigned when you saw he could no longer fight against my remaining pieces anymore. I did not perform spectacularly well, and it did not do badly either, just fair enough. I enjoyed the Team Battle while it lasted. I hope there will be more chess tournaments on Hive, as this is helping to improve my chess.

See on Saturday HiveChess Tournament.
