Greetings, dear bookworms! Once again, I'm here with a new book review for you. I was looking for a short, light fantasy novel to take a break from the dense, long books I'm used to reading, but I ended up with a deeper read than I expected. It's Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

> ¡Saludos, queridos bookworms! Una vez más, llego con una nueva reseña de un libro para ustedes. Llegué buscando una novela corta y ligera de fantasía para descansar entre los libros densos y largos que estoy acostumbrada a leer, pero salí con una lectura más profunda de lo que me esperaba. Se trata de Elder Race de Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Lynesse is the Queen's fourth daughter. Therefore, nothing is expected of her other than to be the one who causes no trouble. However, a demon is tormenting a neighboring country, and she fears that it will soon reach her own kingdom and bring misfortune, just as it did 100 years ago when her grandmother, Queen Astresse, bravely fought alongside the ancient sorcerer Nyrmroth. So, she decides to go to the gates of the legendary sorcerer's tower to ask him to renew the pact he made with her grandmother in years past.
This story becomes interesting when we read Nyrmroth's point of view, who is actually an anthropologist from Earth with a group of colonists sent to repopulate the new planet. He sleeps and wakes up, thanks to freezing technology, so he appears to be legendary and immortal.

>Lynesse es la Cuarta Hija de la Reina. Por lo tanto, no se espera absolutamente nada de ella más que ser la que no de problemas. Sin embargo, un demonio atormenta un país vecino, y le preocupa que pronto llegue a su propio reino y que caiga en desgracia, así como lo hizo 100 años atrás, cuando su abuela, la reina Astresse, combatió valientemente junto al hechicero ancestral Nyrmroth. Así que decide ir a las puertas de la torre del legendario hechicero a solicitar renovar el pacto que hizo con su abuela en años pasados.

> Esta historia se vuelve interesante cuando leemos el punto de vista de Nyrmroth, quien en realidad es un antropólogo proveniente de la tierra con un grupo de colonos para repoblar el nuevo planeta. Duerme y despierta, gracias a la tecnología de congelamiento, por lo que pareciera que es legendario e inmortal.
The genre of this story is science fiction fantasy, because it combines elements of both genres that blend together quite well. So we saw both points of view throughout the radiation, in which the technology used by Nyr seemed like magic to Lynesse, and it was something that excited me to realize that I liked it.
However, the real focus of the whole story is the processes that Nyr goes through as he suffers from severe depression, being completely alone on a distant planet, when his companions abandoned him to his fate and probably died. How he counteracts it, fighting against the processes while on medication and battling his mental demons as he searches for a real one.
This short novel, which is very short and can be read easily in a couple of hours, is one I would recommend to everyone. It is not a complex fantasy world, although at times I felt a little lost with the geographical descriptions because they were not as detailed as I am used to, but we could leave them to the imagination.

> El género de esta historia es de Ciencia ficción fantástica, porque une elementos de ambos géneros que se mezclan bastante bien. Así que veíamos ambos puntos de vista durante toda la radiación, en la que la tecnología utilizada por Nyr, parecía magia ante los ojos de Lynesse, y fue algo que me emocionó darme cuenta de que me haya gustado.

> Sin embargo, el verdadero foco de toda la historia son los procesos que pasa Nyr por sufrir de una severa depresión al estar completamente solo en un planeta lejano, cuando sus compañeros lo abandonaron a su suerte y probablemente hayan fallecido. De como va contrarrestando, luchando contra los procesos al estar medicado y batallando contra sus demonios mentales mientras va en la búsqueda de uno real.

> Esta pequeña novela, que es muy corta y se puede leer tranquilamente en un par de horas, si se las podría recomendar a todos. No es un mundo fantástico complejo, aunque por momentos me sentía un poco perdida con las descripciones geográficas porque no eran tan detalladas a como estoy acostumbrada, pero podríamos dejarlas libres a la imaginación.
