I'm so happy to be writing again in the community to take part in the weekly opportunity that Splinterlands gives us to share art inspired by its universe and creatures. This is my entry for the Splinterlands Art Contest Week 358! I'm excited to share my newest chibi-style illustration inspired by one of my favorite fire creatures.

Qué alegría volver a estar escribiendo en la comunidad para participar en la oportunidad semanal que nos da Splinterlands para compartir arte sobre su universo y sus criaturas. Esta será mi entrada para el Splinterlands Art Contest Week 358!. Estoy emocionado de compartir mi nueva ilustración en estilo chibi, inspirada en una de mis criaturas de fuego favoritas.
As you know, I’ve been on a long journey to perfect my chibi drawing style, and I feel I’ve created some of my favorite pieces in this format. Right now, I’m drawing characters I’ve illustrated before—but this time, much more kawaii and cute. Today it’s the turn of a creature I really love: a mix between a genie and a fire demon. If you haven’t guessed yet, I’m talking about Flame Mephit.
Como saben, llevo una jornada bastante larga perfeccionando mi estilo de dibujo chibi, y considero que he creado varios de mis dibujos favoritos en este estilo. Me encuentro dibujando en estos momentos personajes que ya he dibujado antes, pero esta vez mucho más kawaii y bonitos. Hoy le tocó el turno a una criatura que me gusta mucho, una mezcla de genio y demonio de fuego. Si no saben aún de cuál hablo, se trata de Flame Mephit.
Flame Mephit belongs to Rebellion and is one of the rarest and most appreciated. Above all, it’s known for being a fire elemental—commonly summoned by mages to perform simple tasks. It’s useful for many things, like lighting a fireplace or warming up dinner, haha. Without a doubt, this card has a unique set of stats and abilities.
Flame Mephit pertenece a Rebellion, siendo de las más raras y apreciadas. Se caracteriza ante todo por ser una elemental del elemento fuego. Es común como un elemental menor que sea invocado por magos para realizar tareas sencillas. Además, es útil en muchas cosas, como encender una chimenea o calentar la cena, jajaja. Sin dudas, esta carta tiene un conjunto único de estadísticas y habilidades.
I started my drawing with the usual chibi base made of simple shapes. I reused the mermaid tail from a previous piece to create its fiery cloud, which also looks like a tail. After the base figure, I added details one by one: its hoop-shaped earrings, green outfit, and signature genie bracelets couldn’t be missing. Drawing the hair was also super fun—full of curls and wild flames. This character is definitely a burst of elemental energy. I had some doubts about what facial expression to give it, and I finally chose a surprised look, as if shocked by its own unleashed power.
Comencé mi dibujo con la base de chibi compuesta por figuras simples que siempre uso. Me ayudé de la cola de sirena de la ocasión anterior para hacer su nube de fuego, que también parece una cola. Después de la figura base fui dando detalle a detalle: sus pendientes en forma de aro, su ropa verde y sus características manillas de genio no podían faltar. Hacer el cabello también fue muy divertido, lleno de rizos y flamas alborotadas. Este personaje sin dudas es toda una explosión de energía elemental. Tenía un poco de dudas sobre qué expresión hacerle en el rostro, y me decidí por una cara de sorpresa por su propio poder desencadenado.
Once I had the full sketch done, I moved on to the line art. Since I worked pretty loosely and all in one layer, I had to pause and carefully choose the final lines. This time I used a very thin 4px line—something I don’t usually do—but I really liked the result and felt like experimenting.
Cuando tuve completamente el boceto hecho, decidí hacer todo el line art. Como trabajé bastante regado y en una sola capa todo el boceto, en el line art tuve que detenerme a escoger las líneas definitivas. Esta vez estoy usando una línea bien delgada de 4px, algo que no acostumbro hacer, pero me gustó mucho el resultado y tenía deseo de experimentar.
And now it’s time to start coloring. Since I want a PNG with a transparent background, the first thing I’ll do is use a solid block of color to separate my character from the background. I’ll add the different colors section by section as I progress through the drawing. I always like having PNGs of my characters to make banners and to share them—and it’s also super useful in case I ever decide to turn them into stickers.
Y llegó el momento de colorear. Como quiero un PNG con fondo transparente, lo primero que haré es, con un bloque sólido de color, separar mi personaje del fondo. Iré agregando los distintos colores por sectores según vaya avanzando en el dibujo. Siempre me gusta tener PNGs de mis personajes para hacer los banners, y también para compartirlos. Además, es muy útil si en algún momento se me ocurre hacer algún sticker.
As I was saying earlier, the first step I always take when coloring is to fill each section of my drawing with its corresponding solid color. That way, I can work with layers—adding highlights and shadows—without affecting the rest of the colors. It’s a method I’ve always used, and I find it very organized and simple.
Como iba adelantando, el primer paso que hago siempre en el coloreado es rellenar con el color sólido correspondiente cada sección de mi dibujo. Así puedo trabajar en capas, tanto luces como sombras, sin afectar el resto de los colores. Es una forma que siempre he usado y que considero muy organizada y simple.
Little by little, I start rendering each element—adding light, shadow, and texture. The skin, the accessories, the clothes, the eyes… I leave the flaming hair and tail flames for last, because I think they’ll be more challenging, since it’s not something I’m used to. But step by step, I managed it, and I really enjoyed both the process and the final result.
Poco a poco voy renderizando los elementos, con luces, sombras y texturas: la piel, los accesorios, la ropa, los ojos… Dejo para último el cabello en llamas y las llamas de la cola porque creo que se me van a complicar más, ya que no es algo en lo que estoy acostumbrado. Pero poco a poco lo logré, y disfruté mucho, tanto el proceso como el resultado.
With the hair finished, all I had left was to create a small background to present the character. I decided to go for something simple—just a few gradients and textures to keep the focus on the protagonist without distracting too much. Although honestly, I think it’s impossible to look away from her with that mix of power and cuteness she ended up with, haha.
Con el cabello listo, solo tengo que hacerle un pequeño fondo para presentar al personaje. Decidí decantarme por algo simple, algo sencillo: un poco de degradados y texturas para centrar la vista en la protagonista y que no distraiga. Aunque creo que es imposible quitarle la vista con la mezcla de poder y adorabilidad que quedó, jajaja.
Well friends, this is my final design for Flame Mephit, where I wanted to blend the devouring, dangerous nature of fire—represented by this elemental—with the cuteness and charm of a chibi-style approach. Flame Mephit is one of my favorite characters, and I’ve drawn it on previous occasions. I’ll probably return to it again and again, because its design is both beautiful and versatile. As usual, I’m sharing an animation of the entire drawing process, from sketch to final result.
Bueno amigos, este es mi diseño final para Flame Mephit, donde quise mezclar el carácter devorador y peligroso del fuego—representado con este elemental—con lo adorable y bonito de un estilo como el chibi. Flame Mephit es uno de mis personajes favoritos, y lo he dibujado en ocasiones anteriores. Quizá regrese a dibujarlo varias veces más por lo bello y versátil de su diseño. Como es costumbre, les comparto una animación de todo el proceso de dibujo, desde el boceto hasta el resultado final.
