Today we'll be redrawing one of the most iconic creatures in the Splinterlands universe, a creature I've drawn on other occasions and absolutely love. I hope you enjoy today's illustration.
Hola amigos de Alien Art y comunidad de Splinterlands, espero que estén teniendo un muy lindo día. ¡Qué alegría estar escribiendo otro blog de dibujo hoy para participar en la edición semanal de Splinterlands Art Contest Week 357! Hoy estaremos redibujando a una de las criaturas más icónicas del universo de Splinterlands, una criatura que he dibujado en otras ocasiones y que me encanta. Espero que les guste el dibujo de hoy.
Well yes, the star of our fan art today is River Nymph! We’ll be redesigning her in my own style—using a chibi kawaii approach. We’ll keep her outfit and accessories, buuuut we’ll turn her into a mermaid, because of course a water nymph absolutely must have a mermaid form. So, she’ll get a tail! This will be my very first time drawing a chibi mermaid, so we’ll see how it turns out.
Pues sí, la protagonista de nuestro fan art el día de hoy es River Nymph. Eso sí, la estaremos rediseñando a mi estilo: utilizaremos un estilo chibi kawaii, y le mantendremos vestuario y accesorios, perooo la haremos sirena, porque una ninfa del agua por supuesto que tiene que tener sí o sí una forma sirena. Así que le pondremos cola. Esta será la primera vez que esté dibujando un chibi sirena, así que veremos qué tal queda.

If we look into the Splinterlands Wiki, we can learn a lot about River Nymph. She's an aquatic character who dwells deep within the rivers of Splinterlands. She's known for being very shy and rarely appears on the surface, preferring to stay hidden underwater. Of course, her type is Water and she belongs to the Chaos Legion. This creature has long been a favorite subject of fan art across the community—I've even created two fan art pieces of her before. The card design is truly beautiful, with a vibe that blends mystical and childlike elements.
Si buscamos en la Wiki de Splinterlands podemos investigar mucho sobre River Nymph. Sabemos que es un personaje acuático, que habita en las profundidades de los ríos de Splinterlands. Además, que es de carácter muy tímido y rara vez se muestra en la superficie, porque prefiere ocultarse bajo el agua. Por supuesto, su Tipo es Agua y pertenece a la Legión Caos. Esta criatura ha sido protagonista mucho tiempo de fan art de toda la comunidad, incluso yo tengo dos fan art anteriores. This fan art is one of my favorites—not of the character, but of all the characters in Splinterlands. I spent many hours working on this drawing, but I think the result was totally worth it.

Alright friends, we're back with today's River Nymph fan art, and this time we're turning her into a beautiful kawaii-style mermaid. The most important thing is that our character stays recognizable, so before diving into the details, we began with a basic sketch. Everything was quite simple—except the tail. It was my first time drawing a chibi tail, and I loved the result! Maybe more mermaid-style fan art is on the way soon.
Bueno amigos, regresamos al fan art de River Nymph del día de hoy, que la haremos como una bella sirena estilo kawaii. Lo más importante es que sea reconocible nuestro personaje, así que antes de ir a los detalles, empezamos con un boceto base. Todo fue bien sencillo, excepto la cola. In the next step, I added her flowing hair and also crafted her tiara, which is one of her most iconic traits—it simply had to be included. It's her most distinctive feature and really brings her identity to life within the chibi mermaid version.

With the full sketch ready, I simply lowered its opacity and began working on the line art—gradually tracing the sketch lines, trying to create fluid and expressive strokes. Chibi line art is quite easy to do, and this time I’ll be experimenting with a thinner and simpler style.
Con todo el boceto listo, simplemente bajé su opacidad y comencé con el line art, poco a poco sacando las líneas del boceto tratando de crear líneas fluidas y expresivas. Now I erase the entire sketch layer so that only the line art remains. I refine the areas that didn’t quite convince me, improve the details, and correct the thickness in different parts of the lines. Line Art—complete!
Ahora borro toda la capa del boceto para quedarme solo con el line art. Mejoro las zonas que no me convencen, perfecciono los detalles y corrijo algunos grosores en distintas partes de la línea. ¡Line Art listo!
Now it's time for color! This character stands out with a palette that mostly features shades of blue and aqua, except for some purples and golds in the accessory details. I love the color blue, and I think blue characters always convey a lot—they're very emotional.

Este personaje destaca por una paleta donde predominan en su mayoría los tonos azules y agua, a excepción de algunos morados y dorados en los detalles de sus accesorios. Me encanta el color azul y creo que los personajes de color azul siempre transmiten mucho y son muy emocionales.
Little by little, I start adding colors—layer by layer. These first layers will just be flat colors, simple tones that define each part of the drawing. I really love her blue hair—it's so, so pretty. Okay, all the colors are ready, time to add a bit of light and shadow and some textures.

I’ll be using gradients in the drawing to create a bit of a 3D effect—especially on the tail, hair, and skin, which are the most prominent elements of the illustration.

This is how my character turned out—with all the colors, all the lights, and all the shadows. I added blush to her cheeks and the tips of her ears because she’s a very, very shy creature. I loved it! And of course, I’m sharing the PNG with a transparent background of my character.
