Hola amigos, espero estén teniendo un muy lindo día. Esta es mi primera vez participando en la comunidad y esta será mi primera entrada al CCC's Street Art Contest. Espero que disfruten la entrada al blog junto a la foto del grafiti/mural que la acompaña.
The photo I’m sharing was taken near Obispo Street in Havana a few years ago, and I had never shared it until now. Back then, I loved walking through Old Havana—a route that was, at the very least, interesting and full of contrasts. There were brand-new buildings, very old ones, and ruins on the verge of collapse. Many walls were covered in tags and paintings of all kinds. There were political messages in favor of the system, and others disguised as humor that spoke against it. There were poems, declarations of love, and even shameless copies of Banksy’s art.
It’s been a long time since I walked those streets, and I don’t know if things are still the same—if the paintings remain or if they’ve been replaced by others. But I hold on to this one and to the memory of a phrase: El amor gana, and if you don’t speak Spanish: love wins. In a few words, a great truth.
La foto que les comparto fue tomada cerca de la calle Obispo en La Habana hace ya unos años y nunca la había compartido. Durante esa época me gustaba mucho caminar por La Habana Vieja, una ruta cuanto menos interesante y llena de distintos tipos de contrastes: edificios muy nuevos, edificios muy viejos, en ruinas a punto de caer. Muchas paredes estaban bombardeadas con firmas y pinturas de todo tipo. Había desde el mensaje político a favor del sistema, hasta el mensaje en contra disfrazado de humor. Había poemas y declaraciones de amor, por haber había hasta descaradas copias al arte de Banksy. Hace mucho no camino esas calles y no sé si todo sigue igual, si siguen las pintadas o si fueron sustituidas por otras. Pero me quedo con esta y el recuerdo de esta frase: El amor gana, y si no hablas español: love wins. En pocas palabras, una gran verdad.
