Stop your Power UP! Instead, do it on Steem Power Up Day (SPUD) May 1st

Have you heard about SPUD? Also known as Steem Power Up Day? No? Well, it's simple as the name says it all. It's an idea launched on Steem by @streetstyle, and will happen on May 1st.

From the first post about SPUD, or Steem Power Up Day @streetstyle explains it as:

On this day no one sells and no one sends Steem to any exchanges. On this day no one powers down and if you are already powering down, then Stop it for that one day and then start powering down the next day... those who can or are willing too, Power Up on the Designated Day.

Can we make a dent in the STEEM price? @streetstyle asks himself. @chesatoshi explains it very well in a video on DTube as well.

Even people who are depending on Steem to pay for their food and such can help, by selling their STEEM the day before or after, but not on May 1st.

I like these kinds of initiatives, and although many people still haven't heard about it, there's also quite a few that do:

@theycallmedan, @mindtrap, @runicar, @tattoodjay, @daan, @abh12345 and @raj808 are amongst those I follow who will join in. Many other users do too or support the idea in some form, like: @runridefly, @alexvanaken, @cryptopie, @kid4life, @knowhow92, @eddiespino, @aulia1993, @donald.porter, @hardaeborla, @joshman (he bought 1000 STEEM just for SPUD!), @mutiahanum, @improv, @clixmoney, @josediccus, @steemflow, @maxdevalue, @seckorama, @stuffbyspencer and @jeanlucsr - all Steemians who are dedicated to Steem and are open to invest a bit more in this platform.

Just today I read a post by @bafi where he mentions the importance of Powering Up (and creating a Steem middle class), and @runicar wrote an amazing post about all the layers of Steem Power, of which I'll add one paragraph to this post (but please read the full article, it's good!)

The way I see Steem Power is in the form of an onion where each layer represents another use-case. The true beauty of this onion is that it is unnatural as it just keeps growing on a never-ending cycle and it keeps adding new use-cases as time goes by. It will never cease to keep adding new layers and it will keep doing this indefinitely — as long as there are devs involved in building on STEEM, users creating content, businesses interested in utilizing STEEM for any purpose, projects and dapps building on top of it — Steem Power will keep adding new use-cases under its belt, or over the existing layers in the case of the onion metaphor.

In short: Powering Up is important, awesome, and there's a fun experiment going on named SPUD that might or might not have an effect on STEEM price - and as @mindtrap mentioned to me in a comment, there's no risk involved in Powering Up STEEM, right? I'm joining just because I like supporting Steemians who take fun initiatives and am always curious to see how far they can reach. How about you? Are you able to power up a few STEEM on May 1st? Or stop your Power Down for a day? Maybe even cancel some sell order on your favourite exchange? Let me hear it in the comments!
