Splinterlands Fan Art - Unicorn Mustang

Lore from Splinterlands:

The wild brown Unicorns of Anumun contrast the white Unicorns of Khymeria in many ways. Unicorn Mustangs travel in herds, while Sacred Unicorns are only seen alone. The brown Unicorns are not considered sacred like the white, but they are still protected from hunt and slaughter by a superstitious stigma that no Lyverian dares challenge. When approached in the wild, Unicorn Mustangs act as though anyone and everyone but fellow Unicorns are their enemies.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday and had a wonderful time with your family and friends. It always feels nice to take a short break, but I’m also excited to be back and to share another Splinterlands fan art with you.

For today’s post, I chose to make a drawing of a Rare Earth Unit from the Untamed Card Set. This card is special because it was one of the most useful starter cards before the Chaos Legion set was released. Many players, especially beginners, found it very handy in battles. One of the best things about this unit is how effective it is against opponents who rely on magic attack cards because of its Void ability. Since magic can be very strong and difficult to defend against, having this card in your deck gives you a solid advantage.

Here is the original image from Splinterlands, which I used as a main reference and inspiration while creating my fan art.

The concept of this fan art is to create a humanoid version of the Unicorn Mustang, giving it a strong and heroic look. Instead of the usual soft and magical style of unicorns, I wanted to show it as a powerful character full of energy and pride. I gave it a fierce expression to highlight its bravery and determination, while the straight stance makes it look confident and ready to face any challenge. The big muscles were added to show strength and toughness, making it clear that this version of the Unicorn Mustang is not just mystical but also a fighter.

To make this piece, I used a few tools and apps that help me work comfortably and add all the details I wanted. The main tools I used were my Android Tablet, which makes it easy to draw anywhere, and Sketchbook for Mobile, which gave me the brushes and colors I needed.

Step-by-step creation process:

Main Object: - Line art of the main object, which is Unicorn Mustang. - Base color in reference to the original image. I used yellowish instead of brown shade on the body. - Applied shadows using multiply layer. I also duplicated the layer and made the other one slightly blurred. - Slighlty blurr the edges of the shadow to show smooth transition. - Added soft glow using lighter color in another layer.

Background: - Apply a combination of yellow, green, and blue shade. - Create a grid like line with soft glow over the combination of yellow, green and blue shade.

Below are the frame-by-frame images that show the full process of creating this fan art, following the steps I explained above. Each frame captures a different stage, from the first line all the way to the final polished artwork, so you can clearly see how the humanoid Unicorn Mustang fan art is created.

I really enjoyed creating this fan art because it reminded me of the early days of playing Splinterlands. It’s fun to look back at the older sets and appreciate the cards that helped shape the game. I hope my artwork brings back some memories for longtime players and also sparks interest for new ones.
