What a major blow for Andrea Mabellini, even before the start of penultimate event of European Rally Championship. His engineers went on the special stage not knowing that it is forbidden and Mabellini got two minutes penalty because of that, even before the start of rally.
I guess that he is devastated, now when he is in fight for the title. This way it will be even harder against Championship leader Miko Marczyk. Both guys drive Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 machinery.
Third guy who can still win the Championship is Jon Armstrong (Ford Fiesta Rally2) but he needs 'help' of Mabellini and Marczyk in their bad results from last two events of the season.
Anyway, Welsh event started with super special stage and Marczyk leads even if Mabellini was fastest driver on it. Jon Armstrong was only 4th on the stage but it doesn't mean much because real action starts tomorrow.
