E' nata ufficialmente la nuova competizione organizzata dalla UEFA per le nazionali europee, la Nations League. Azzurri inseriti nel gruppo con Polonia e Portogallo, Germania con Francia e Olanda, in palio 4 posti per Euro 2020. L'Italia è stata inserita nel girone 3 e se la dovrà vedere con il Portogallo di CR7 reduce dalla vittoria degli europei nel 2016, e la Polonia di Robert Lewandowski, giocherà 4 partite nell'intervallo di tempo fra settembre e novembre. Solo ottenendo il primo posto, si qualificherà per la fase successiva, in programma a giugno 2019, in caso di non avvenuta qualificazione l'avventura si ferma a novembre, mentre se dovesse arrivare in ultima posizione verrà retrocessa in seconda divisione per l'edizione successiva della Nations League.

Le squadre partecipanti (55) vengono divise in quattro Divisioni, in base al ranking riferito al 2017, quando terminano le qualificazioni per il Mondiale del 2018.

La Nations League va ad interagire con le qualificazioni per gli Europei 2020. Nel 2019 si sorteggiano i 10 gruppi: 5 gruppi da 5 squadre e 5 da 6 squadre, avendo un totale di 55 squadre. Le prime 2 di ogni gruppo vanno in fase finale (20). Gli ultimi quattro posti saranno assegnati tramite la Nations League a marzo 2020. I playoff in programma, vedono 16 squadre, di cui quattro per ciascuna gruppo. In questi gruppi ci saranno delle semifinali a partita unica e poi le Finali, che daranno gli ultimi posti a disposizione.

The new competition organized by UEFA for the European nationals, the Nations League, was officially born. Azzurri included in the group with Poland and Portugal, Germany with France and Holland, up for grabs 4 places for Euro 2020. Italy has been included in Group 3 and will have to see it with CR7 Portugal, who has just won the Europeans' victory in 2016, and Robert Lewandowski's Poland will play 4 games in the interval between September and November. Only by obtaining the first place, will qualify for the next phase, scheduled for June 2019, in the event of failure to qualify the adventure stops in November, and if it should come in last place will be relegated to the second division for the next edition of the Nations League.

The Nations League goes to interact with the qualifications for the Europeans 2020. In 2019 the 10 groups are drawn: 5 groups of 5 teams and 5 of 6 teams, having a total of 55 teams. The first 2 of each group go to the final phase (20). The last four places will be assigned through the Nations League in March 2020. The playoffs in the program, see 16 teams, of which four for each group. In these groups there will be semi-final in a single game and then the Final, which will give the last places available.
