Description from Strava:
I am not really a cycling fan, but I have been to a few events. When I heard that the Tour of Britain Stage 3 was passing very close to home I could not resist having a look. The race is from Milton Keynes to Ampthill, but it swings out east to Henlow that is just up the road. I thought about running there, but decided to use the bike for a change.
There was some rain this morning with more forecast, but it cleared up before the race. I rode over to Henlow where the kids were all coming out of the school to watch. This is obviously a big operation with loads of support vehicles. There were lots of police motorcyclists operating a rolling road block. One would ride up to block a side road and then go on ahead as the next one came along. Then there were some race officials in cars, camera crews and even some guys with spare wheels on a motorbike. Eventually the lead riders came through some way ahead of the peloton who I took some video of. They were followed by all the team cars with spare bikes plus various emergency vehicles.

After they had all passed I rode on to catch them again further on. I had the kids cheering me along as well as a few comments from others. I went out into the countryside at Stanford. The race took a longer route as they had to go around a big loop twice. I met up with a friend there and we saw them pass. They would be covering 133km in about three hours. I could definitely not do that.
There were a lot of keen cyclists out who zoomed past me. Someone pointed out that my back wheel is a bit bent, so I need to get that looked at. I do not use the bike too much, but I knew it was not quite right.
I rode into Shefford where I thought I might see the racers again, but I must have missed them. I got a coffee there before riding home. I was quite warm, but happy to have missed the rain. I did take a coat just in case. That is my longest ride in a while and I felt it. I think that cycling uses different muscles to running.
I really ought to cycle more, but I need to get the bike looked at first. There is a cycle repair place up the road. I do not use it enough to justify buying anything new and expensive.
Ride free!
