Description from Strava:
I was keen to do another long run today. It rained overnight again, but was looking fairly bright when I got up (after doing Wordle). I had half a banana and some water before I left.
I had decided to do a route I had not done in a while. I started off as if I were going to the parkrun, but carried on towards Henlow. It is a bit noisy by the main roads, but better in the villages. Through Henlow and into Clifton the road goes up and down a little as I pass the upper school my kids went to. They would get the bus, but it only takes 30 minutes to jog there.
Near the school was the Railway Steamer pub where my band played a few times. That has been demolished and I assume more houses will be built there. So many are going up around here.
From Clifton I head to Shefford. These villages are almost joined up now. At a roundabout I almost double back to take the road to Henlow Camp. That has a bit of a hill where I struggled and had to walk for a short while. There is a big house that had a fire some time ago and it is still in a ruined state. I had to cross the big road at the roundabout, but someone stopped for me. The footpath after that was narrow and a bit rough.
The Henlow greyhound track shut down a while ago and there are lots of new houses on the site now. I worked at Henlow Camp many years ago so it brings back memories. The camp is due to shut down some time soon, so I expect that will mean more housebuilding.
I took a shortcut across the fields back to Arlesey rather than following the road. One of the farm tracks was covered in big stones that were hard to run on and I almost stumbled. Then it is through the Mill Pits and over the railway footbridge to get home (past more houses being built).
There is bound to be quite a demographic change around here with all these hundreds of new houses. The schools will have to expand and people will expect better facilities. This area has changed a lot since we came here 30 years ago.
This run was long enough for me today, but the pace was not too bad. A colleague did the Toulouse marathon this morning. He had asked me if I wanted to go, but I am just not fit enough for that right now.
I will be logging some walks to work this week for the company challenge, but those will not go on Hive like this one.
Run free!
