Between chains and desires: review of La Sumisa -Entre cadenas y deseos: reseña de La Sumisa (ENG/ESP)

Hello, Hive Book Club community! Today I want to share my experience with a book that I had saved for a few years and finally decided to read in its entirety. It is La Sumisa, written by Noelia Fernández. I bought it at a book fair in Cúcuta, and although I had had it on my bookshelf for a long time, I only recently decided to give it a chance. Something that surprised me is that, despite being the second part of a trilogy called Cautiva, I was able to understand the story without any problems. It hooked me from the first few pages, and I really liked the way the author manages to immerse us in a world full of intense emotions, passions, and internal conflicts. --- >! Se trata de La Sumisa, escrito por Noelia Fernández. Lo compré en una feria del libro en Cúcuta, y aunque hace tiempo lo tenía en mi librero, recién ahora decidí darle la oportunidad. Algo que me sorprendió es que, a pesar de ser la segunda parte de una trilogía llamada Cautiva, logré entender la historia sin problemas. Me atrapó desde las primeras páginas y me gustó mucho la manera en que la autora logra sumergirnos en un mundo cargado de emociones intensas, pasiones y conflictos internos. --- Spoiler Alert In La Sumisa, we follow the story of Alexia, a young woman who was introduced in the first part of the trilogy, but here she takes center stage. The novel takes us through her relationship with Marcos, a man with a strong, dominant character and a lifestyle that mixes love with control. The author not only portrays an erotic relationship, but goes further, exploring the fears, doubts, and emotional surrender of the characters. What is interesting is that it is not just about scenes of intense passion, but about how Alexia discovers who she is within that relationship. We see her contradictions: the desire to be free, but also the longing to surrender; the strength of her convictions, but at the same time the vulnerability of her emotions. Marcos, for his part, is a character who moves between tenderness and harshness, and this makes the reader constantly wonder what his true intention is. --- >! La novela nos lleva por su relación con Marcos, un hombre con un carácter fuerte, dominante y con un estilo de vida que mezcla el amor con el control. La autora no solo retrata una relación erótica, sino que va más allá, explorando los miedos, las dudas y la entrega emocional de los personajes. Lo interesante es que no se trata únicamente de escenas de pasión intensa, sino de cómo Alexia va descubriendo quién es dentro de esa relación. Vemos sus contradicciones: el deseo de ser libre, pero también el anhelo de entregarse; la fuerza de sus convicciones, pero al mismo tiempo la vulnerabilidad de sus emociones. Marcos, por su parte, es un personaje que se mueve entre la ternura y la dureza, y eso hace que el lector esté constantemente preguntándose cuál es su verdadera intención. --- The novel is narrated in an engaging style that goes beyond the surface. The author plays with the characters' psychology, showing how human relationships, although passionate, are also full of challenges, silences, and wounds from the past that influence every decision. Throughout the plot, Alexia undergoes a personal transformation. Her role as a “submissive” is not limited to the erotic, but becomes a journey of self-discovery. She begins to understand what she is willing to accept and what she is not, questioning her own limits and what it really means to love and be loved. This is where the book gains a lot of strength, because behind the sensuality there is a message about identity, self-worth, and life choices. --- >! La autora juega con la psicología de los personajes, mostrando cómo las relaciones humanas, aunque pasionales, también están llenas de retos, silencios y heridas del pasado que influyen en cada decisión. A lo largo de la trama, Alexia experimenta una transformación personal. Su papel de “sumisa” no se limita a lo erótico, sino que se convierte en un viaje de autodescubrimiento. Ella empieza a entender qué está dispuesta a aceptar y qué no, cuestionándose sus propios límites y lo que significa realmente amar y ser amada. Es aquí donde el libro gana mucha fuerza, porque detrás de la sensualidad hay un mensaje sobre la identidad, el valor propio y las elecciones en la vida. --- What I think of the book Personally, I found La Sumisa to be an intense and captivating read. Although it is erotic literature, the truth is that it goes far beyond that genre. It talks about human emotions, internal struggles, and how relationships are not always easy or perfect. I liked that, despite not having read the first part, I was able to understand the plot well and connect with the characters. --- >! [Spanish] >Lo que pienso del libro Personalmente, La Sumisa me pareció una lectura intensa y atrapante. Aunque es literatura erótica, la verdad es que va mucho más allá de ese género. Habla de emociones humanas, de luchas internas y de cómo las relaciones no siempre son fáciles ni perfectas. Me gustó que, a pesar de no haber leído la primera parte, pude comprender bien la trama y conectar con los personajes. --- I enjoyed it so much that I was curious to read the first book in the trilogy to understand even more about the origins of this story. It also left me thinking about how each person defines love and power within a relationship. I definitely recommend this book for those who enjoy passionate reading, but also for those who want to reflect on the more complex side of human emotions. --- >! Además, me dejó pensando en cómo cada persona define el amor y el poder dentro de una relación. Definitivamente, es un libro que recomiendo para quienes disfruten de las lecturas apasionadas, pero también para quienes quieran reflexionar sobre el lado más complejo de las emociones humanas.
