I started planting apple trees 4 years ago. Every year I plant a few more. I'm up to 9 trees. Each is a different variety.

This year 4 different varieties produced apples. Liberty, Crimson Topaz, Wine Crisp, and Golden Russet.

I don't apply fungicides or insecticides so my apples are never going to be perfect like the ones you see in stores.

But they are still tasty. I have a mix of hybrids that are easier to grow as they are usually developed to have disease resistance. And heirlooms that are older varieties.

The Golden Russet is an heirloom. I like the heirlooms because they are not likely to be found in grocery stores.

All my trees are doing well and I am happy with the progress they made this season. l was somewhat disappointed because the deer got to most of my apples and I only had a few to harvest. I decided some of my trees were big enough to take down the deer fencing and I was wrong 🙁 I will be putting up more fencing next year. The crows even got in on the feast and ate a couple of the apples that were too high for the deer 🤦

I also have a few crabapples I planted to help with pollination. Of course they are producing abundantly and the deer don't seem interested.
