The first Museum of Happiness is to open its doors this September in London, UK. To put it in its creators words, the project aims to offer "[...] physical spaces for people to explore the art and science of happiness in a fun and reflective way."
Situated in Arlington House in Camden (North of London), the museum will help the visitors exploring science-backed techniques to find happiness in one's life.
The project started over tow years ago, when Johnson and Alidina, the co-founders of the project started a pop-up museum in London's Spitalfields market. Overwhelmed by their success, they opened a first permanent location in the Canevas 'Happy Cafe' where they provided yoga, mindfulness and art therapy classes in a pay-forward manner. It means that you can participate for free to these activities, as it has already been payed by people before you. You are then invited to contribute in any way that would make you happy, be it by paying a coffee (i should say a tea, it's in London!) to your instructor, contributing to the next lesson or inviting people in need of happiness to the next session.
The dream of a new permanent location became reality when they successfully closed a £28,289 fundraiser on Crowdfunder.co.uk. This new museum, in which the same pay-forward services will be provided, will also contribute to 'teach happiness' to recently housed but previously homeless people, and to kids from deprived areas of the British capital.
Finally, the co-founders want to use the additional money raised during the fundraiser to setup a 'tropical paradise'. Indeed, it's hard to feel unhappy when relaxing in a hammock!
