I remember talking with my brother at one point, who knows what he wants: a simple and reasonable life, with a few specific easy to attain luxuries. He stated his desires to me and I was like, oh yes, I guess that’s what I want too. He laughed and said, no it’s not. You have always wished a Big Life.
Well, he was right. I have always wished a big, beautiful life. I have to admit, I wanted him (or someone) to give me strength to acknowledge what I wanted.
Ever since I was young, I was always on the path with max freedom and leverage. Though, at that time, I couldn’t figure out what? I got a job as early as I could and worked through high school so I could do whatever I want like going to dinners with my friends, get myself things I liked, invest in things I thought would benefit me (still searching for a better investment plan).
Some people will hear that and think it means private jets, giant house, or a yacht. I agree, for some, that’s the vision. But that’s not the point at least for me.
For me, a beautiful is whatever makes you, “YOU.”
It’s always been about the combination of freedom and richness, not just in money, but in experiences, people, places and the work I get to do.
The tricky part is wanting more than the simple. I don’t know, why it triggers so many people? You will be told to “be grateful for what you have.” As if gratitude and passion cannot live in the same house. You will be on constant watch. You will be warned about burnout, about how it’s never enough. Sometimes these warning are out of care or love. Sometimes they come from people who quietly gave up on what they wanted and are trying to get you to do the same to fulfill their loneliness.
But here is the truth: you are allowed to want whatever your heart or mind says. Build a big life, maybe a complicated life if that’s what lights you up. And don’t worry, you may change this “beautiful” as you grow up.
But remember, there is only one rule: Definition must be yours and yours only. Not from Instagram, your friends, or even your parents. Do take advises, listen to them and then act upon your instincts, your reasoning.
Because, in this beautifully chaotic life, you are the ruler. So, rule it!
And maybe, if you are lucky, your brother (or someone else) will laugh and remind you of what you have known all along.
