Hello to all the members of this community and sewing lovers! Today I'm very excited to tell you about my new acquisition: A small sewing machine, which will be destined to stay at my boyfriend's house, for when I come to visit and my "sewing spirit" kicks in (it has happened to me before, when I was visiting and suddenly felt like sewing 😆) or when a sewing repair needs to be done.

My decision to buy this machine wasn't rushed. In fact, it wasn't the first time I'd used it; I'd already used it once at my friend @kimi-gon's house, who has an identical one. The first time I saw this machine, I fell in love with its tiny size (I'm fascinated by small things 😍), and after helping my friend with some sewing tips, I was intrigued. That was a few years ago, however, before my last trip, another friend had told me she'd been given one of these machines for her birthday, and I offered to give her a sewing class.

Using the machine was a challenge because it had been over a year since my first contact with it, but luckily, I managed to get by, and my friend was happy with what we did... but I was left with a kind of "uneasiness." Then I realized that it was a desire for acquisition, since out of nowhere the thought arose "What if I buy one of those machines?", I didn't see it as a bad investment, its cost was about $15 and they were found in several stores in the city, so I decided to allocate part of my savings from the platform to acquire it and I don't regret it!

🧵💝🪡 THE PRODUCT 🧵💝🪡

Before buying it, my friend and I had watched several videos on how to use the sewing machine, as well as its respective parts, so I was much more confident when I held mine in my hands. I confirmed that my friend's and mine have a few different features, but they are minor details.

It only has straight stitching, without reverse stitching; it has an automatic bobbin winder (this surprised me) through a small tube located on the right side, on the wheel that raises and lowers the needle; it also has a button to sew without using the pedal (I can't get used to that button; I prefer to keep my hands on the fabric 😅); you have the option of using the upper thread by placing it on top (in a small tube that comes out from the top) or by placing a full bobbin next to the tension button; it has a light bulb that you can turn on or off, whether the machine is on or not; as well as a thread cutter on the left side (something very cool). It also has a button that supposedly regulates the speed of the machine, but I didn't see much of a difference 🤔 so I ignored that button the times I used the machine, as well as the one for sewing without a pedal. Another interesting thing it has is the option to use batteries, so it has the compartment for them on the bottom.

Okay, now let's talk about the accessories: As expected, it comes with a plug and foot pedal, albeit separate (my homemade Singer machine has those cables attached). Very cute and all... But they're too short! That's a problem, because even though the machine is small, it doesn't mean we'll be sewing on the floor, right? In order to use it, I had to place it on a stool and plug it into an extension cord. This way, both the pedal and the plug looked great... but as I sewed there for a while, I got a neck ache haha, so it's advisable to take precautions, like placing the pedal on a stool and the machine on a higher level (that's what I did at my friend's house). That's a downside.

But, let's continue with the accessories: It came with an extra size 90/14 needle, as well as a manual threader, perfect for when you don't have the patience to thread the needle, or if, like me, your Singer machine has an automatic threading feature and you've gotten used to always using it. 😆 In addition, it comes with the upper and lower bobbins, and 4 additional bobbins, for a total of 6 bobbins! That impressed me and left me more than satisfied. If it had come with mini scissors or a seam ripper, it would have been a godsend. Oh, right, both the upper and lower bobbins come filled with white thread 😌

🧵💝🪡 USAGE 🧵💝🪡

I know I've already mentioned that I've used my friends' mini sewing machines, but I needed to try mine out. After all, it had a one-week warranty, and I couldn't risk having a damaged product in storage. With that in mind, I decided to use the machine to create a simple sewing project with scraps of fabric my friend @kimi-gon had given me. I thought about making a sort of tablecloth from scraps of fabric that could also serve as a background for my future projects. I started by cutting some squares, which I double-stitched together for reinforcement (remember, there's no reverse stitching).

Since I didn't have an iron, I did a step-on seam. It doesn't look very elegant considering I sewed everything with a single-color thread, but at that point, I couldn't be too fussy. Besides, as I mentioned, the machine came with two size 14 needles... so when I had to sew stretchy or thin fabrics... the seam skipped. I had the option of discarding those pieces of fabric, but my stubbornness made me do everything I could to sew them, alternating them with a stiff piece of fabric. The plan worked, to a certain extent.

Once I had the squares joined together on several strips of fabric, I joined these strips together, trying to get a nice pattern between them (and trying to avoid the stretchy fabrics colliding with each other).

The result was more than satisfactory for what I had available ✨ I left it there because I preferred to wait until I got a finer needle to sew the edges. The important thing is that I had used the machine enough to verify that it came to me in optimal condition and thus, I wouldn't have to worry about the warranty anymore.

🧵💝🪡 THE POSITIVE 🧵💝🪡

Okay, I want to clarify that I'm not an expert seamstress and I'm simply speaking from my experience with the machine. 😅 I really like its compact size; it's ideal if you don't have a lot of money to invest and want to start sewing, and if you don't have a lot of space for the machine. This also makes it easy to transport, which is ideal and my reason for buying it, because it's impossible for me to carry my Singer machine on every trip (it wouldn't make sense). Its compact size and light weight are magnificent, the best thing about it, without a doubt.

The accessories it comes with are a much-needed plus. I still can't get over the fact that it came with 6 metal spools. It came with more than my home Singer machine back in the day, which only came with 2 plastic spools, haha. The thread cutter, the automatic bobbin winder... Wow! They're a real lifesaver. Not to mention the battery-powered option. I thought it was kind of silly, but you never know when you might be at a bazaar and find something sewing-grade. Haha. Fascinating!

🧵💝🪡 THE NEGATIVE 🧵💝🪡

Aside from the short plug and pedal cables, there's one small problem... The tension. If you're a beginner using the machine and don't have the patience, you might end up wanting to throw the machine out the window, haha. Almost everything forces you to fiddle with the tension knob. The first time I had to thread the machine, I spent a while sweating, because no matter how well I threaded it, it wouldn't sew. It started sewing fine when I moved the tension knob, which doesn't make sense if I kept using the same thread and needle 😑 On my Singer machine, I almost never mess with the thread tension, but with this machine... my friend texts me almost every day saying it sews poorly at the bottom and it's horrible haha. I don't know why this happens or if it's a design flaw.

You can't use it for long periods of time. It's just a matter of common sense, since it has a small motor, so you'll have to calm your excitement about sewing, because if you force it for hours, it can start to smell like it's burning.

The light bulb it comes with, aside from barely lighting up at all, goes out for a second when you use the machine, which gives you a "on and off" feeling, which bothers me because it gives me the feeling it's going to break (my friend's is like that too).

I also complain that where I bought it, they didn't have the turquoise version (I saw online that there were models with buttons that color 💚), but that's just my bad luck when it came to purchasing the product haha.

🧵💝🪡 MY OPINION 🧵💝🪡

For the price, I see it as a good product, perfect for simple projects like making scrunchies, hemming, or simple clothing alterations using thin fabrics, as long as you use it sparingly. I once sewed a pair of shorts with one of my friends using this machine, and they turned out quite well, so you can make entire pieces without any problems, but remember that it's not something you can work in bulk, at least not without letting it rest for a reasonable amount of time. I also see it as a good option to get through a tight spot or, as in my case, if you want an extra machine to rely on when you're away from home. Next time, I hope to bring a different type of needle and work on other pieces so I can share my experience with you.

Now that I have my Singer machine and have been able to use it these past few days, I notice a huge difference, especially when it comes to lifting the machine foot haha, as well as the reverse sewing without having to turn the piece or mess with the tension 🙃 Anyway... I think I went on about this haha, but I wanted to tell you in detail what to expect from this machine if you've seen it and wondered if it actually sews haha. I hope this review helps you 😇

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! Hoy vengo a con mucha emoción a hablarles acerca de mi nueva adquisición: Una máquina de coser pequeña, la cual, estará destinada a permanecer en la casa de mi novio, para cuando vaya de visita y mi "espíritu costurero" se active (me había pasado, que estaba de visita y tenía ganas de coser de la nada 😆) o cuando sea necesario hacer una reparación de costura.

Mi decisión de comprar dicha máquina, no fue apresurada. De hecho, no es la primera vez que la usaba, ya lo había hecho una vez en casa de mi amiga @kimi-gon, quién tiene una idéntica. La primera vez que vi esa máquina, me enamoré por su diminuto tamaño (me fascinan las cosas pequeñas 😍) y luego de ayudar a mi amiga con algunas recomendaciones de costura, me quedé intrigada con la máquina. Eso fue unos años atrás, sin embargo, antes de mi último viaje, otra amiga me había comentado que le habían regalado una máquina de esas en su cumpleaños y yo me ofrecí a darle una clase de costura.

Usar la máquina fue un reto, porque había pasado un lapso de más de un año desde mi primer contacto, pero por suerte, me las pude arreglar y mi amiga, quedó contenta con lo que hicimos... pero yo, quedé con una especie de "inquietud". Luego comprendí, que era un deseo de adquisición, ya que de la nada surgió el pensamiento "¿Y si me compro una máquina de esas?", no lo vi como una mala inversión, su costo era de unos 15$ y se encontraban en varios locales de la ciudad, así que decidí destinar parte de mis ahorros de la plataforma en adquirirla ¡Y no me arrepiento!

🧵💝🪡 EL PRODUCTO 🧵💝🪡

Antes de comprarla, me había visto con mi amiga varios videos de cómo usar la máquina de coser, así como sus respectivas partes, así que estaba mucho más segura cuando tuve la mía en las manos. Corroboré que la de mi amiga y la mía, tienen algunas cositas diferentes, pero son detalles menores.

Posee únicamente costura recta, sin retroceso; cuenta con embobinador automático (esto me sorprendió) a través de un tubito que se encuentra en el lado derecho, en la rueda que sube y baja la aguja; así como tiene un botón para coser sin utilizar el pedal (no me acostumbro a ese botón, prefiero mantener mis manos sobre la tela 😅); tienes la opción de utilizar el hilo superior colocándolo en la parte de arriba (en un tubito que sale desde la parte superior) o colocando una bobina llena próxima al botón de tensión; posee un bombillo que puedes encender o apagar, así la máquina esté encendida o no; así como un cortador de hilo en la parte izquierda (algo genial); también cuenta con un botón que a según, es para regular la velocidad de la máquina, pero yo no vi la gran diferencia 🤔 de modo que ignoré ese botón las veces que usé la máquina, así como el del cosido sin pedal. Algo interesante con lo que cuenta es la opción de usarse a baterías, así que tiene el compartimiento para las mismas en la parte de abajo.

Muy bien, ahora hablemos de los accesorios: Como era de esperarse, trae su enchufe y su pedal, aunque de forma separada (mi máquina Singer casera, trae esos cables pegados). Muy lindo y todo... ¡Pero son demasiado cortos! Eso es un problema, porque a pesar de que la máquina sea pequeña, no significa que vayamos a coser pegados al suelo ¿Verdad? Para poder usarla, tuve que colocarla en un banquito y conectarla a una extensión eléctrica. De ésta forma, tanto el pedal como el enchufe, quedaban muy bien... pero con el tiempo de coser ahí sentada, me dio dolor de cuello jaja, así que, es recomendable tomar precauciones, como colocar el pedal en un banquito y la máquina si a un nivel más alto (así hice en casa de mi amiga). Ese es un punto desfavorable.

Pero, sigamos con los accesorios: Trajo una aguja extra del número 90/14, así como un enhebrador manual, perfecto para cuando no tienes paciencia en meter el hilo en la aguja o te pasa como yo, que tu máquina Singer tiene una pieza para enhebrar automáticamente y te has malacostumbrado a siempre usarla 😆 Adicional a eso, trae la bobina superior, la inferior y 4 adicionales, siendo un total de ¡6 bobinas! Eso, me impresionó y me dejó más que satisfecha. Si hubiera traído una mini tijera o un sacacostura, ya hubiera sido un regalo caído del cielo. Ah, cierto, tanto la bobina superior como la superior, vienen llenas de hilo de color blanco 😌

🧵💝🪡 EL USO 🧵💝🪡

Ya sé que les había comentado que había usado las mini máquinas de coser de mis amigas, pero necesitaba probar la mía, después de todo, tenía una semana de garantía y no podía arriesgarme a tener un producto dañado guardado. Pensando en ello, decidí utilizar la máquina elaborando un proyecto de costura sencillo con trozos de tela que me había regalado mi amiga @kimi-gon. Pensé en elaborar una especie de mantel de retazos de tela que pudiera servirme también como fondo para mis futuros proyectos. Comencé cortando unos cuadrados a los que fui uniendo con doble costura para reforzar (recuerden que no trae retroceso).

Como no contaba con una plancha, realicé una costura a modo de pisado. No se ve muy elegante, siendo que cosí todo con un hilo de un mismo color, pero a esas alturas, no me podía poner exigente jaja aparte que como comenté, la máquina trajo dos agujas número 14... así que cuando me tocaba coser telas elásticas o finas... la costura saltaba jaja tenía la opción de descartar esos trozos de tela, pero mi necedad me hizo hacer hasta lo imposible por coserlas, alternándolas con un trozo de tela rígido. El plan funcionó, en cierta medida.

Una vez que tuve los cuadrados unidos en varias tiras de telas, uní estas tiras entre sí, buscando obtener un lindo patrón entre ellas (y tratando de evitar que las telas elásticas chocaran entre sí).

El resultado fue más que satisfactorio para lo que tenía disponible ✨ Lo dejé hasta allí, porque prefería esperar a conseguir una aguja más fina para coser los bordes. Lo importante es que había usado la máquina lo suficiente como para verificar que me vino en óptimas condiciones y así, no pensar más en la garantía.

🧵💝🪡 LO POSITIVO 🧵💝🪡

Muy bien, aclaro que no soy una costurera experta y hablo simplemente desde mi utilización de la máquina desde mi conocimiento 😅 Me gusta muchísimo su tamaño compacto, es ideal por si no tienes mucho dinero para invertir y quieres iniciar en la costura, así como no dispones de un gran espacio para la máquina. Eso también la hace de fácil traslado, lo cual es ideal y mi razón de comprarla, porque me es imposible trasladar mi máquina Singer en cada viaje (no tendría sentido). Su tamaño compacto y de escaso peso, es magnífico, lo mejor que tiene, sin duda.

Los accesorios que trae son un plus más que necesario, aún no supero que trajera 6 bobinas de metal, trajo más que mi máquina Singer casera en su época, la cual me trajo apenas 2 bobinas y de paso de plástico jaja La pieza de cortar hilo, el embobinador automático... ¡Uf! Si que salvan. Sin mencionar esa opción de usarla a baterías, pensé que era algo tonto, pero, nunca se sabe cuando puedas estar en un bazar y ofrecer algo a nivel de costura jaja ¡Fascinante!

🧵💝🪡 LO NEGATIVO 🧵💝🪡

Aparte de lo corto de los cables del enchufe y el pedal, hay un problemita... La tensión. Si eres principiante usando la máquina y no tienes paciencia, puede ser que acabes con ganas de lanzar la máquina por la ventana jaja y es que, cas todo te obliga a meterte con el botón de tensión. La primera vez que me tocó enhebrar la máquina, estuve rato sudando frío, porque por más que colocaba bien el hilo, no me cosía. Comenzó a coser bien cuando moví el botón de tensión, lo cual, no tiene sentido si seguía usando el mismo hilo y aguja 😑 en mi máquina Singer casi nunca me meto con la tensión del hilo, pero con esta máquina... mi amiga me escribe casi todos los días diciendo que le cose mal abajo y es horrible jaja No sé porqué sucede esto o si será algún desperfecto de diseño.

No puedes usarla mucho tiempo. Es algo de sentido común, ya que tiene un motor pequeño, así que tendrás que calmar tu emoción por coser, porque si la fuerzas por horas, puede llegar a oler a quemado.

El bombillo que trae, aparte que no alumbra casi nada, se apaga un segundo cuando usas la máquina, lo cual te da una sensación de "encendido y apagado", que me incomoda porque me da la sensación de que se va a dañar (la de mi amiga, también es así).

También me quejo que donde la compré, no tenían la versión turquesa (vi por internet que habían modelos con los botones de ese color 💚), pero eso ya es producto de mi mala suerte a la hora de adquirir el producto jaja.

🧵💝🪡 MI OPINIÓN 🧵💝🪡

Para el costo, lo veo como un buen producto, perfecto para proyectos sencillos como elaboración de scrunchies, dobladillos o arreglos de ropa sencillos y de telas delgadas, siempre y cuando usándola con moderación. Una vez cosí un short con una de mis amigas con esta máquina y salió bastante bien, así que se pueden elaborar piezas completas sin problemas, pero recordando que no es algo para trabajar en masa, al menos no sin dejarla descansar un tiempo prudencial. También la veo como una buena opción para salir del paso o como en mi caso, que desees tener una máquina extra en la cual apoyarte cuando estás fuera de casa. Para la próxima ocasión, espero llevarme otro tipo de agujas y trabajar otras piezas para contarles mi experiencia).

Ahora que me encuentro con mi máquina Singer y he podido usarla estos días, noto la gran diferencia, sobre todo a la hora de levantar el pie de máquina jaja así como el retroceso de costura sin tener que voltear la pieza, ni meterme con la tensión 🙃 En fin... creo que me extendí con esto jaja pero quería contarles a detalle qué esperar de esta máquina si la han visto y se han preguntado si realmente cose jaja Espero que éste review les sirva 😇
