Hello to all the members of this community and sewing lovers! Fortunately, I've just emerged from a phase I called "sewing block." For a whole month, I didn't feel like using my sewing machine, even though I had countless projects halfway through and in mind. And it wasn't because having so many unfinished projects overwhelmed me (I'm not there yet 😆), but simply because I didn't have the energy to dedicate myself to sewing.

Instead of questioning myself, I simply put that activity aside and dedicated myself to doing other things, respecting my desire not to sew. Luckily, one morning I woke up eager to use the machine, and when I started, that desire to continue with the sewing projects I had in mind returned. Like any seamstress, I'm weak when it comes to going into a textile center and always end up taking a yard of fabric with me, haha. So, to avoid feeling like a "fabric hoarder," I've decided to make pieces with the fabrics I've bought for the job. The shirt I'll show you today is one of them ✨

The fabric I bought—I don't remember its name, haha—but I do remember that it cost only $1 a meter. Since only a 1.50-meter scrap was available, I ended up taking it with me because the horse print on a dark background tempted me. At first, I thought I'd make a dress, but when I got the fabric out, I realized I'd need more than that for the type of dress I wanted to make, so I discarded that idea and went for the safe option: a shirt. I hadn't made a long-sleeved, button-down shirt in a while, so I took advantage of the fact that I had enough fabric.

I used a long-sleeved shirt I already had as a guide, although after cutting it, I dared to make a few changes, such as changing the collar and cuffs. From the patterned fabric, I cut the front and back pieces, as well as the sleeves. I cut some black pieces separately for the collar, details for the cuffs in black fabric with frosted details, and a strip of interfacing for the buttonholes.

The first thing I did was iron the interfacing on the front piece, as well as fold and sew the edges where the buttons and buttonholes would go respectively.

Next, I worked on the collar. I was a bit adventurous here, as the shirt I was using as a guide had a different collar. I thought about making something different, using a black chiffon fabric. I would have loved to make the collar with the glitter chiffon fabric, but unfortunately I only had a small piece and preferred to use it for the sleeve trim.

After that, I sewed the remaining pieces of frosted chiffon fabric to the edge of the sleeve pieces. I love how it blends perfectly with the stitches on the horse fabric. If I'd had enough for the neckline, it would have been perfect 😓 but anyway... I took advantage of the opportunity to make a few small pleats to give it a slightly creased look. After joining them at the shoulders, I was able to sew the sleeves and close the sides.

Once I hemmed the bottom of the blouse and sewed the label I usually add to garments I make from scratch, the shirt was almost ready.

All that was left was to make the buttonholes and sew on the buttons, which is a super simple and quick task when you have the machine feet for both (my machine came with them, and I've loved them ever since I learned how to use them 💕). I wasn't sure what type of button to use, but I ended up using a combination of yellows and grays, since they're colors that really pop in the print. I need to buy more elegant buttons 😅

And so, the ideal blouse for horse lovers was now completely ready to go into the ring ✨🐎

Even though it wasn't what I had initially envisioned, I really liked the result. I feel like I refresh my knowledge and learn certain things every time I make a blouse or shirt. I still feel like I have a lot to learn, but I've also realized how much I love sewing. I'll make the most of the inspiration I have before the next lockdown, haha.

At first, I wasn't entirely convinced by the collar, but whether you wear it closed or open, it looks quite cute, so I ended up liking it. I have a small piece of this fabric left, so I'm planning on making a small pouch to match ✨

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! Felizmente acabo de salir de una etapa que llamé "bloqueo de costura", pues durante todo un mes, no me provocaba utilizar mi máquina de coser, a sabiendas de los incontables proyectos que tengo a medias y en mente. Y no era porque tener tantos proyectos inconclusos, me agobiara (aún no llego a eso punto 😆), sino que simplemente, no tenía ánimos para dedicarle a la costura.

En lugar de cuestionarme, simplemente dejé esa actividad de lado y me dediqué a hacer otras cosas, respetando mi deseo de no coser. Por suerte, una mañana desperté con deseos de usar la máquina y cuando comencé, regresó a mí esas ansias por proceder con los proyectos de costura que tenía pensado. Como toda costurera, soy débil al entrar a un centro textil y siempre acabo llevándome un metro de tela jaja así que, para no sentirme como una "acaparadora de tela", he tomado la decisión de ir elaborando piezas con las telas que he comprado para esa labor. La camisa que les mostraré el día de hoy, es una de ellas ✨

La tela que compré, no recuerdo su nombre jaja pero si recuerdo que su precio era de apenas 1$ el metro. Como sólo se hallaba disponible un retazo de 1.50 m, acabé llevándomelo, pues el estampado de caballos en un fondo oscuro, me tentaba. Al principio, pensé en que elaboraría un vestido, pero al sacar la tela, me di cuenta de que necesitaría más que eso para el tipo de vestido que quería elaborar, así que descarté ya idea y me fui por lo seguro: Una camisa. Tenía un tiempo sin elaborar una camisa con mangas largas y botones, así que aproveché que la cantidad de tela, era suficiente.

Usé de guía una camisa manga larga que ya tenía, aunque luego de cortar, me atreví a hacer unos cambios, como cambiarle el tipo de cuello y los puños. De la tela estampada corté: piezas delanteras y traseras, así como las mangas; corté aparte, unas piezas en color negro para elaborar el cuello, detalles para los puños en tela negra con detalles escarchados y una tira de entretela para elaborar la parte de los ojales.

Lo primero que hice, fue planchar la entretela en la pieza delantera, así como doblar y coser los bordes en donde irían los botones y ojales respectivamente.

Luego, trabajé en el cuello. En ésta parte, sí me aventuré, pues la camisa que estaba usando de guía, tenía un cuello distinto. Pensé en elaborar algo diferente, utilizando una tela chiffon de color negra. Me hubiese fascinado elaborar el cuello con la tela chiffon con escarcha, pero lamentablemente sólo tenía un trocito y preferí usarla para el borde las mangas.

Tras esto, cosí en el borde de las piezas de las mangas, los trozos de tela chiffon escarchada que me quedaba. Me encanta como combina a la perfección con los puntos que trae la tela de los caballos. Si hubiese tenido lo suficiente para el cuello, hubiese sido perfecto 😓 pero bueno... aproveché de hacer unos pequeños pliegues para que se viese algo ruchado y tras unir en la zona de los hombros, pude después, coser las mangas y cerrar por los laterales.

Una vez que hice el dobladillo en la parte inferior de la blusa y cosí la etiqueta que suelo colocar en las prendas que realizo desde cero, la camisa estuvo casi lista.

Sólo faltaban realizar los ojales y coser los botones, lo cual es una labor súper sencilla y rápida cuando cuentas con los pies de máquina para ambos casos (mi máquina los trajo y desde que los aprendí a usar, los amo 💕). No estaba segura del tipo de botón a utilizar, pero terminé haciendo una intercalación entre amarillos y grises, ya que son colores que se aprecian en el estampado. Me hacen falta comprar botones más elegantes 😅

Y de esta forma, la blusa ideal para los amantes de los equinos, ahora sí, estuvo completamente lista para ir al ruedo ✨🐎

A pesar de que no era lo que había pensado inicialmente, me gustó mucho el resultado. Siento que refresco conocimiento y aprendo ciertas cosas cada vez que elaboro una blusa o camisa. Aún considero que me falta mucho por aprender, pero también me he dado cuenta del amor que siento por la costura. Aprovecharé al máximo la inspiración que tengo, antes del próximo bloqueo jaja.

Al principio, no me convencía del todo el cuello, pero usándolo cerrado o abierto, se ve bastante lindo, así que acabó por gustarme. Me quedó un trozo pequeño de esta tela, así que tengo pensado elaborar un pequeño bolsito para que vaya a juego ✨
